Wave Crash - New Player
Hey ya'll, new to champions and I don't quite get the value of moves like wave crash and flare blitz. They seem to be quite strong, and can OHKO mons pretty reliably, but also result in huge backlash on your mon.
If your mon is the backbone of your composition versus the enemy comp, it sometimes feels like the opportunity cost of not having a different move can be very costly.
This for me is more true when used on pokemon that used up your mega evolution. The 30% hp loss may not be worth OHKO on an enemy mon that is relatively less useful.
It's obvious to me that these types of moves are prominent in the meta, so I'm missing some of the logic and math that underpin the strength behind these moves.
Basculegion for example does so much damage as the back-end pokemon that I almost never need wavecrash. It feels much better on support incineroar for example where his natural bulkiness makes the health trade feel better.
Help me learn and improve, it's clearly a logic bias and not rooted in the reality of the game and what is strong.
I searched previous reddit threads and didn't find anything definitive.
