Quiet pockets around George Town

Hi, I'll be staying in George Town for a couple of days in June. My impression is that it's a touristy area but are there any places where I can journal or read in peace? Parks, libraries, unusual quiet areas would be nice aside from the cafés (also, does it get noisy at Norm Micro Roastery?)

I'm usually up and out by 8 AM so I'd like to go to a place already open around that time. Thank you!

Books for a 4-hour train ride

I'll be spending a few hours on a train from Kuala Lumpur to Penang and I'm hoping to occupy myself with a light read.

I'm open to any natural, existentialist, or reflective themes similar to the atmosphere of Stoner or Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Novellas would be perfect. Thank you!
