Hey guys, I’m trying to decide between Hillside and Parkside for a double at CSULB and I’m looking for people who’ve actually lived there.
I didn’t get a dorm tour, so I’ve just been going off research, but I want real experiences because I know online info doesn’t always reflect what it’s actually like day-to-day.
If you’ve lived in either, could you tell me:
Which dorm feels more lively / has more events and social stuff going on?
What the actual day-to-day vibe is like in each (quiet, social, busy, etc.)
How the laundry rooms are (crowding, cleanliness, wait times)
What the rooms are really like (space, condition, any issues like maintenance or mold, etc.)
How the common areas / study spaces are (availability, comfort, how often people actually use them)
How are the restrooms/ communal bathrooms?
How far it actually is to classes / main parts of campus
How the dining hall situation is (food, convenience, lines, quality)
Which one you would personally choose again and why
Thanks, I really want honest answers from people who’ve actually lived there 🙏
Stuck between SJSU & CSULB 🤔 admitted for Comm but want Interior Design. SJSU = new life + opportunities, but unsure housing + safety vibe. CSULB = beach + strong rep, kinda big, seems less to do, also unsure housing. Is off-campus housing doable for each + social life at each?

What’s the party/social scene like at SJSU for 18+?
I’m considering coming here and wanted to know:
- Are there frat parties or mostly house parties?
- Is there stuff to do at 18 (like 18+ clubs/events)?
- Is it easy to find parties or do you need to know people?
Also, what if you’re NOT in a sorority—does that make it harder to get into parties or have a social life? I might dorm or live off campus but either way wanna be involved!!
Just trying to understand the overall vibe on weekends. I’m deciding between schools so honest answers would help.
