They did it!
Several months ago I was at a DDOT open house and asked one of the employees why DC didn’t have bike lane color differentiation on Google Maps like NYC does. They didn’t even know that existed, so I pulled up an example in Manhattan and the person seemed excited and told me they’d look into it.
Today I opened Maps and there it was! Now you can visually compare Google’s recommended routes and see which holes in the bike lane network you’re most likely to be hit by a MD or VA driver in the middle of (or convince your bike-shy friends that c’mon, it’s ok, the K-Hole is only like two blocks of sidewalk or traffic dodging). Shout out DDOT midlevel employees, keep up the good work, sorry about your boss!!!
