I bought a scootie-patootie and now I need all the things. *EXCITED!*

Hi! I posted a few weeks ago that I was looking to get a scooter and I pulled the trigger on this cutie here. Please excuse my scattered thoughts, I'm very excited and I don't know where to start. I don't have a lot of scooter/motorcycle enthusiasts in my life to ask about this stuff.

I'd like to be very hands-on with maintenance and repairs, etc. What are the must-have tools? I imagine a socket wrench set is a priority. Anything else?

Is there a list of things I should service now that she's mine?

Does anyone recommend any accoutrements?

I have purchased a full face helmet and I'm currently looking for gloves and a jacket. Should I be thinking about anything else in terms of gear?

Tyvm!

1950s (?) Bakelite US Navy War Lantern

I scored a cool old Navy lantern on FB Marketplace and I need advice on restoring the outside of it. I bought this as a gift for my Navy Vet father-in-law so I'd like to make it as beautiful as possible.

Does anyone have any advice of what to do or not do? Atm i'm just going by what the AI bot tells me but that makes me nervous, lol. I'd rather hear from experienced people!

Thank you very much!

Becoming a 1st time scooter owner.

Hello! I am F51 and I've always idly wanted a scooter to ride to work and back in the nice weather. I've decided to pull the trigger and get one because, well, I'm not getting any younger. Anyways, I like a retro looking scooter like Honda Metro or Vespa though I know very little about scooters in general.

My questions are:

Are Metros and Vespas easy to own/maintain? Do you have strong opinions about them either for or against?

If there was a post middle-aged woman in your life thinking about getting a scooter, which one would you recommend to her?

Tyvm

Edit to add: I live in the US (New England)

I started Zep on May 2, 2025. My BMI at that time was 40+, today it is 29.9 (I've lost 70lbs). Anyways: I'm not obese anymore. Woo Hoo!

I did take some full body pictures at the start of my weightloss journey but I cannot post them yet; I feel a lot of shame about them and I hate all current pictures of myself. I don't know if this is body dysmorphia or just general self loathing.

I do, however, have some face pics for reference. The first is from before Zep (left)and the second (right) is from last month.

Here are some observations about my journey:

•Within the 1st week or 2 of taking the shot I noticed the reduction in inflammation - especially in my knees and ankles. It was easier getting up and down the stairs almost immediately. 70lbs later and the stairs are a breeze.

•I can (sorta) do my hair now. Before Zep I could not keep my arms lifted above my head for any length of time as they were so heavy. I would get so fatigued trying to style my hair that I usually gave up and just threw it into a messy bun.

•Batwings and Turkey neck are the new bane of my existence. It's still preferable to the excess weight though.

•Clothes shopping is kinda fun now

•People are much nicer to me now, it's really weird and kind of a mindf♡ck

•I was so afraid of losing hair that I've been taking multiple biotin supplements. I guess it works! My hairdresser was drying me and asked if I've been taking it because my hair was taking a long time to dry. She pointed out all of my new growth. So unexpected! I guess I lost the weight at just the right pace so it never triggered hair loss? The biotin has not improved my fingernails at all however, they are still quite brittle and unmanageable. Oh well.

•Drinking the daily water makes you feel better. It took me a long time to learn that (I hate water). I have to trick myself into drinking it but it does help.

This med has been life changing for me. Please feel free to ask me questions about my experience, I'll do my best to answer. Ty to this group for being here, it has been so helpful! ♡
