Broke this one in about a year ago and was never 100% happy with the shape. I had recently done what I thought was the same Mizuno Pro, so I kept trying to force a similar shape on her.

It looked great, but something felt off. Finally realized this pattern wanted a wider heel and shallower pocket, much closer to a TT2.

Japanese Mizuno Pros don’t have the pattern stamped on them, so sometimes you’re guessing what you’re working with.

Anyway I stopped fighting the glove and let the pattern tell me what she wanted. Every glove I break in teaches me something new!

Now it’s right.

When I broke in this glove, I intentionally kept it nice and crisp. I didn’t wanna break it in all the way. I love this very stiff Dry timberglaze. Simple shape, classy and I really miss this leather. While you’re at it, please bring back the sandlot.

Abe, who many of us know as Kasukawa, has officially stepped away from the store and is moving on to his next chapter. His work and approach to glove molding have been a huge inspiration to me and to so many others in the glove community.
This break-in is my tribute to him and the style he helped inspire. Wishing Abe nothing but the best in whatever comes next. Thank you for the inspiration, my friend.

The original shape was rough, plus the palm bubble under the ring finger made it a challenge but we do what we can

This is part of my process before the actual break-in. I like to dry shape the glove first to see what she’s made of and get an idea of where I want to take the shape. I’ll also do a little hinge work just to get her moving and closing naturally.
One thing I’ve learned is not to rush to the mallet. I prefer to get the leather properly stretched and moving first with hand manipulation, stretching, massaging and hinge work. In my experience, forcing a glove closed before it’s ready, whether it’s with your hand or a mallet, is one of the easiest ways to create palm bubbles.
Nothing crazy here, just one of the little steps in my process before the real break-in begins.

A friend of mine sent this off to me to get shaped and broken in. Before it came to me, he had it sent off to get embroidery that was originally on there changed to his nickname. In the beginning is how I got the glove. It was kind of squished and had no shape. And then you see the transformation. Enjoy.

The V Web Machado on the bottom is the original shape I did. The top H Web is the one that I shaped for somebody who wanted the same break in.

Wanted a classy shape that still looked new but stayed functional. This was the result.
