Bf (35M) disappeared for the whole day on my birthday (26F).

Hey so it’s my birthday today and I told my boyfriend specifically that I would like the feel special and that my past birthdays have been bad - I moved countries alone just last year around this time and have been through a lot to stay here.

He reassured me that there would be a BBQ on the beach that my friends were throwing as a regular event that we could go to, which not to sound selfish wasn’t ideal as I wanted something special for me but I was happy to at least get out and make the most of it!

I woke up at around 8am and he was leaving to “go and get a piñata” which I was stoked about as it seemed really thoughtful. I ended up taking a nap mid day and got ready for the BBQ in the afternoon, it got to about 5/6pm when I started to get concerned as the beach closes at 10pm here.

I had no communication or messages from him all day, had no idea where he was or if something had happened. 7pm rolls around and he calls me saying that he had to “drop off some stuff to a charity event” all the way out in the country. I had no heads up about this. I was obviously pissed because why would you do your buddy or whatever a favour specifically on my birthday knowing you are 3 hours out of town under the guise of “picking up a piñata”…

I chewed him out as I was super upset I’d been left alone all day and got ready specifically, he hadn’t contacted me so I didn’t know what the plans were otherwise I would have done something myself. He guilted me and said that it was a “charity event for kids with cancer” and that we should still go out and enjoy our time. It is now 8:30pm and he is still not back so basically the BBQ ends in 1.5 hours.

Is this grounds to break up atp? He has repeatedly let me down in the past but this just feels malicious to specifically do this on my birthday.

Tl;dr: boyfriend left me alone all day on birthday despite having plans together so he could help out at an event for “kids with cancer” quote on quote

I hate sand.

Before and after surgery 2 weeks post op! Ankle break from picking up a friend and falling on the beach.

Can my bank (NBC) take credit card payments from my social assistance cheque?

Hi guys I’m currently waiting for my $1060 welfare cheque to deposit and noticed that my Allure Mastercard had taken $276 from it as payment while processing. I am with National Bank.

I have been unable to make payments on my card due to a broken leg and being unable to work but desperately needed the full government cheque to pay my rent this month. Is it legal for them to take from welfare cheques?

Today is Canada Day so I’m unable to call them but will be contacting them first thing tomorrow, I’m just uncertain how to get $3500 debt under control while I’m unable to work and may have to do a consumer proposal. I will be opening an account with Simplii for my next cheque so this doesn’t happen again. Any knowledge or advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: this is what I’ve found on google please let me know if this is accurate: “No, a credit card company or bank cannot legally take your BC Income Assistance payments to cover credit card debt. Provincial social assistance funds are entirely exempt from seizure.

If $270 was removed from your account, it usually happens because of a loophole called the Right of Offset. If your credit card and your bank account are with the same financial institution, the bank's system can automatically take money from your checking account to pay your card. However, doing this to protected social assistance funds is a violation of your rights.”
