I have thoroughly reviewed the Douluo Dalu series, excluding certain spin-offs and the narrative concerning Huo Yuhao's son. Additionally, I have enjoyed "Divine Throne" and found "Child of Light" to be satisfactory. I am seeking recommendations for further reading. While I have extensively explored Douluo Dalu fanfiction, I am open to exceptional fan-created works that predate the Tang San era, or are set between Douluo Dalu 1 and 2, or between Douluo Dalu 2 and 3. Alternatively, I would appreciate suggestions for works similar to those I have already mentioned.

I’m working on a Douluo Dalu original protagonist and wanted to share his character concept.

👑 Basic Information

Name: Xu Tianyuan

Gender: Male

Race: Human / Divine God Descendant

Family: Xu Family — former imperial family of the Sun and Moon Empire

Origin: A parallel timeline of the Douluo Continent

True Identity: Son of the Goddess of Life and God of Destruction

🌌 Origin

Xu Tianyuan was originally the unborn son of the Goddess of Life and the God of Destruction.

Before his birth, a catastrophic event struck the God Realm.

The calamity caused massive distortions in space and time, eventually creating a terrifying Space-Time Vortex.

Realizing that they might not survive, the two Supreme Gods made a desperate decision.

They sent their unborn son's soul through the Space-Time Vortex and into the Douluo Continent.

Before doing so, they separated portions of their Divine Cores and sealed their divine consciousness inside them.

They also left behind their respective Super Divine Weapons, which were sealed together with their son's soul.

Their goal was simple:

Protect their child until he becomes strong enough to survive on his own.

However, they have no idea where the Space-Time Vortex ultimately took them.

Xu Tianyuan therefore grows up without knowing whether his parents are still alive.

👶 Childhood

Xu Tianyuan is reincarnated into the Xu Family, an ancient family that once ruled the Sun and Moon Empire.

Despite his extraordinary origin, his childhood is surprisingly normal.

He grows up as an ordinary member of the Xu Family and has no knowledge of his divine heritage.

His Divine Cores remain dormant, and his parents' consciousnesses do not interfere with his development.

For years, he genuinely believes that he is simply Xu Tianyuan.

🧠 The Awakening

Everything changes during his Martial Soul Awakening.

When his Martial Souls appear, the two Divine Cores finally awaken.

At the same time, Xu Tianyuan's memories begin returning.

He remembers another life.

A life on a world called Blue Planet.

He remembers being an ordinary human and remembers reading stories about the Douluo world.

But there is a major problem:

The world he remembers is not exactly the same world he has been reincarnated into.

Some historical events are different.

Some people are in different positions.

Some events he remembers have not happened yet.

And others may never happen at all.

This means his knowledge of the future is useful, but far from absolute.

The domain continuously provides Life energy while allowing Xu Tianyuan to create defensive structures, weapons and temporary lifeforms.

⚔️ Divine Heritage

Xu Tianyuan possesses two sealed Divine Cores.

Contains a fragment of the Goddess of Life's divine consciousness.

It grants Xu Tianyuan access to:

Contains a fragment of the God of Destruction's divine consciousness.

Neither consciousness completely controls Xu Tianyuan.

They act more like dormant guardians and teachers, gradually revealing information as he becomes stronger.

⚔️ Super Divine Weapons

His parents also left behind their Super Divine Weapons.

However, the weapons are sealed.

Xu Tianyuan cannot freely use them at the beginning.

As his cultivation and understanding of the Life and Destruction Laws increase, the seals gradually weaken.

This prevents him from becoming ridiculously overpowered immediately.

☯️ Core Concept

Xu Tianyuan represents the balance between two opposing forces:

Life creates.

Destruction ends.

But neither force is truly good or evil.

Life without Destruction leads to endless stagnation.

Destruction without Life leads to absolute nothingness.

Together, they form a cycle:

Creation → Life → Growth → Destruction → Rebirth

His ultimate potential is therefore not simply becoming the strongest Destruction or Life user.

It is understanding the Cycle of Creation and Destruction.

🎭 Character Direction

I don't want Xu Tianyuan to immediately become an omniscient or invincible protagonist just because he is the son of two Supreme Gods.

His divine heritage gives him potential, not instant power.

He still has to cultivate, learn, make mistakes and understand the world.

His memories from Blue Planet give him knowledge of the original Douluo world, but because this is a different timeline, he cannot assume everything will happen exactly as he remembers.

I've read a lot of Douluo Dalu fanfictions (DD1, DD2, DD3, and even a few DD4 stories). I'm neither a Tang San hater nor a hardcore supporter, but I feel like 90% of the fanfics follow the exact same formula: an overpowered protagonist, a huge harem, female characters with little personality, and the MC getting everything handed to him with almost no effort.

There are definitely some great stories out there, but I think the fandom has so much more potential. I'm not a very good writer myself, but I have a lot of ideas that I'd love to see explored.

For example, here's one idea for a Douluo Dalu 1 fanfiction:

The protagonist is born 10 years before Tang San. He isn't a transmigrator or a reincarnator—just an ordinary person born into a Soul Master family in the Star Luo Empire. His family's martial souls are hereditary horse-type martial souls with different elemental attributes, such as Flame Horse, Thunder Horse, Wind Horse, etc. The family patriarch is a Soul Emperor.

However, the protagonist's martial soul mutates into a Qilin, and he is born with innate full soul power. Every soul ring he absorbs grants him mastery over a different element instead of just a single soul skill.

Instead of going to Shrek, he attends an Elemental Academy, where he makes friends, competes with local nobles, and slowly grows stronger through hard work. After graduation, he receives a recommendation to study in the Star Luo capital, where he becomes involved in the political struggles between noble families, powerful sects, and the schemes of Spirit Hall.

He eventually falls in love with a girl from a ducal family whose patriarch is a Spirit Douluo. Together, they participate in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament and win through teamwork rather than plot armor.

Afterward, the protagonist explores the continent and discovers a hidden desert cave that contains a miniature world isolated from the outside. Inside are forests, powerful spirit beasts, and an ancient temple guarded by a colorful 100,000-year-old spirit beast. The temple contains the inheritance of the Elemental Gods.

The protagonist undergoes countless trials to earn the inheritance instead of receiving free power-ups. In the end, he becomes the Elemental God King.

Rather than destroying Spirit Hall, he stops Tang San from killing the Angel God because he believes Spirit Hall serves an important purpose. Instead, he reforms it and establishes a new balance between Spirit Hall, the major sects, and a newly created Temple of the Elements to maintain peace across the continent.

I think a story focused on world-building, politics, exploration, and earned growth would be much more interesting than another generic harem power fantasy. What do you think?
