Literally the entire parking lot in front of Harbor Freight / the new Burlington / Tj Maxx looks like this.

Are the upgraded asphalt shingles with extra rubber worth it with solar panels?

Replacing the roof where we have 24 solar panels.

From the same roofing company, CertainTeed Landmark quote is $13.5k, Northgate is $15.2k. The roofer strongly recommended Northgate since it has added rubber, and would seal the holes from the solar panels better.

Just wondering if there is a legitimate benefit, since it seems adequate flashing should make it such that this doesn't matter.

Is it necessary to replace solar panel racks?

We bought a house that came with 24 solar panels that are now ~8 years old. We're replacing the roof, and got 2 quotes for removing them and re-installing them.

Quote 1: ~$6k, including new flashing. One concern is that they gave the quote without knowing much about our specific panels, just that we have 24. Maybe this info simply wouldn't have affected the estimate too much? They have 4.9 star rating including positive reviews for exactly my situation.

Quote 2: ~$10k, which includes replacing the whole racking system. They said our system was a little older and we need to replace, even though there isn't anything wrong with the current racking system. They were very thorough with making sure to learn everything about our system before giving a quote, and they have 5.0 star rating.

$4k difference is a lot, since the roof replacement is going to cost ~$20k already. I'm leaning towards going with the first quote because it seems adequate and it's significantly cheaper.
