Overtime scheduling

The staffing office scheduled me to work six days in one week (5 days and 1 night). I believe this would result in overtime, and this is the second time they’ve made this kind of scheduling mistake.

The first time, they scheduled me for a night shift followed by an evening shift the next day, and both shifts were booked well in advance. Since I was new, I didn’t realize it would count as overtime until after I had worked the night shift. I called the staffing office, and they canceled my evening shift.

I don’t mind working six days because I could really use the money. If I just keep quiet and work the shifts they scheduled me for, could I get in trouble?

Edit: I’m an HCA with Covenant Health.

Shifts for casuals

Can someone explain how shifts are distributed? I’m a casual HCA at Grey Nuns Hospital, and most of my shift bids have been declined.
I called the staffing office to ask about one specific bid, but the person I spoke with was a bit vague and said they weren’t the one who made the decision on that bid.
I understand that for shifts posted two weeks or more in advance, part-time employees get priority. But what happens if I bid earlier than everyone else within the priority window? Does bidding earlier make any difference?
Also, how important is shift leveling when awarding shifts? And for imminent shifts, what factors are considered when deciding who gets them?

HCA accidentally check blood glucose without an order

I’m a new casual HCA and today I checked the blood glucose of a patient who did not have an order for glucose testing. As soon as I realized the mistake, I told the RN responsible for the patient. Both the RN and my HCA coworker said there was nothing to worry about.
However, I’ve been feeling anxious about it since. Should I have also notified the charge nurse or the patient? Is this something I could get in trouble for?
I’m still new and trying to learn from my mistakes, so I’d appreciate any advice.

Casual position hiring process at Covenant Health

Thanks to a connection, I was invited for an interview for a casual position next week at Covenant Health. There was no posting for this position.

I’m wondering how the hiring process works when there isn’t a job posting. Will a posting be created for this role, or how does it usually work? Also, will I be asked to provide references?
