Anyone interested in learning a new sport? [SELLING]

Hey Chicago-

My name is Ben and I’ve been playing table tennis on and off for over 20 years. I’ve always had a passion for learning and teaching and just recently lucked into a large space where I could fit a table tennis studio. This is a professional level set up where you can learn the real deal- the type of table tennis you might see in the Olympics or on TikTok.

Growing up I was obsessed with ping pong but only ever really played in grandpa’s basement. Finally my dad happened to find not only a coach, but the US junior coach and developmental coach of the year teaching in our hometown! I was 15 and all the sudden ping pong was new again. I played and progressed until college and then was only ever able to play on and off for many years.

Within the last few years I decided to get very much back into it and started coaching. Having a space like this of my own has been a dream of mine. I’ve put a lot of thought into putting it together. It’s not perfect, but the bones are good:

Tons of space (the student’s side has 25 feet in length and 18 in width), high-end table tennis specific flooring (the gray stuff in the pics), tall ceilings, professional table, good lighting, central air, and extras like: an available shower (not something offered in the vast majority of table tennis clubs), towels, fast-chargers, water dispenser, fridge, table tennis robot, and a cute dog to cheer you on. Not to mention, the place has pretty awesome views of the city (not pictured).

Open to adult beginners and intermediates, the private studio is located on the border of the South Loop/East Pilsen/Chinatown. Send me a DM if you’re interested or have any questions.

Thoughts on net cords

In table tennis the ball hits the net frequently- much more frequently than tennis and with the heavy spin the net contact changes the ball’s trajectory and predictability significantly. I’m not sure if this has started happening more frequently in recent years with the ball getting bigger and change to plastic, but it definitely happens a lot. Would the game benefit from a different net material? Perhaps one that makes it a clear disadvantage to hit the net?

One more post about my friend’s massive storage unit! [SELLING]

I’ve seen more Redditors than any other platform come through the storage unit so I had to make just one more post!

Tentative plans to completely clear out the 1500 square foot unit have been made for the July 4th weekend. As such Thursday, July 2nd is likely to be the last day to get in.

For those who don’t know the story, my friend was a collector and buyer/seller who moved to middle America to farm and get away from it all. Everything in his unit has been sitting for 2 years and is depreciating against rent.

…Therefore things are priced to sell! To be clear, that means if you are a collector it will be a great deal, and if you are a reseller you can make money. It does not necessarily mean prices are completely bottom of the barrel, thrift store prices.

Many things are designer and have a history, lots have gone upwards of 75-80% off retail. Some things are negotiable, some are not. What a time to be alive!

I’m doing this by appointment due to the stipulations of storage units. I have lots of times this weekend and the following week. Message me for the address and to book an appointment. Look forward to seeing more Redditors!

Dignics 05 sponge always rips, I can’t do it anymore

I’m not the safest with my rubbers and inevitably I have a little edge damage or rubbers peel off a little on the edge and I have to reglue. Or I have to reboost. Whenever I take off Dignics, or especially if I have to remove the old glue the sponge always rips or small chunks of the sponge come off.

This never happened with rubbers previous to Dignics and it’s becoming very expensive. The problem is I’ve never tried and liked an alternative and I love Dignics. I love its low trajectory and feel. I know there have been threads made, but what’s a good alternative that plays like Dignics 05 boosted? It doesn’t have to be super cheap, but I want the sponge to stay in tact and for it to have good durability.

Thanks 🙏🏻

I have lots of times available for Father’s Day weekend and the upcoming week. Message me on Reddit for the address and to book. Look forward to seeing you!

Massive vintage inventory, priced to sell [SELLING]

My friend moved away and his 1500 square foot vintage storage unit (packed floor to ceiling) has been sitting for a couple years. He has given me the right to sell nearly anything in the unit. Furniture, lamps, glassware, figurines, and on and on.

It’s a picker’s dream. Dealers, resellers, anyone can come take a look. An overwhelming amount of stuff is packed in here and we are trying to clear out the space to utilize it for something new.

Located in Chicago by the Near South Side / Canal St. Very flexible hours. By appointment. It is in a storage facility.
Message me for details.
