Moving to teach in BC from teaching internationally
Hi all, I’m looking to start teaching in BC and have so many questions! First off, I grew up in Tsawwassen, BC but have lived abroad for 12 years, most of which teaching at international schools in Thailand. I have British Qualified Teacher Status and am in the process of having my qualifications certified in BC.
I’ve been looking at the jobs posted on Make a Future and haven’t seen many going for Delta where my family is, but lots going in more rural districts… so I’m curious to hear about anyone’s experience living and teaching in a rural area. What’s it like? What are the winters like? What do you do in your free time? Do you have much free time?
I also have a toddler and British partner (who is also qualified to teach but we need to get PR started first). What is childcare like? Have you been able to make friends and connect with the community?
The only teachers I know in BC have taught in Vancouver or Victoria, so would love to hear some feedback of anyone who’s moved somewhere rural. I realize living in rural BC is going to be incredibly different from Thailand… so curious to get a better idea! Thanks in advance.
