AITA for wearing a white wedding dress? (I’m the bride)

My fiancé and I are getting married next year and I just needed to vent about some comments I received that made me feel weird.

Basically when I spoke with my mom about wedding dress shopping she asked me if I knew what kind of dress I wanted and which color I wanted. I was kind of surprised about the color question because white is kind of the default color. I said something about a classic white one and she was like “oh, you want a white dress? Even though you’ve been living with your boyfriend for a couple years already? Oh okay.” (I forget the exact phrasing but it was something about me and boyfriend living together).

I immediately felt super awkward because it felt like she was judging me for wanting to wear white despite not being “pure” I guess? I found this super strange and kind of offensive because it’s 2026 not 1950… and also that’s none of her business.

I got similar comments from my aunts (her sisters) because the first question they asked me was “what color do you want your dress to be?” I totally understand that some people wear non-white dresses at their wedding but I kind of thought white was the assumed color so the fact that all 3 asked me the same question made me think it wasn’t just an innocent question and that they had the same judgment over me. I’m so confused because we don’t come from a religious background at ALL. One of them asked me “white or ivory?” so maybe she was genuinely curious about the shade but idk.. I just felt really weird like more was being implied.

Is this a normal question to be asked over and over again first thing? How would you react if you were asked?
