Mbuna stocking options

Mbuna stocking options

This new mbuna tank is just about wrapped up cycling doing the 24hr test now.

The tank itself is 48x18x18 67 gallons. Filtered by a fluval fx2 and a sicce shark pro 500.

Im going to be ordering fish soon and was wondering what people think about throwing 21-26 Iodotropheus sprengerae (rusty cichlid). 1.5-2" unsexed fish in there.

My other stocking idea would be splitting and going for 11 rusties and 11 yellow labs for a little more diversity but for whatever reason im pretty set on the rusty colony.

Any opnions about this set up before its all finalized?

Stocking options mbuna

I recently picked up a 67 gallon tank 48x18x18 and an fx2. Ive kept mbuna years ago successfully but never these types.

Im leaning toward 12 rusties and 6-8 yellow tail aceis

My big question is will the acei get too large for a tank thats only 18" tall? Since the rusties stay smaller I was planning on doing a central rock pile but not like overly huge. With a single big stone reaching up toward the water line and a series of caves to the left and right of the big rock. Leaving a good size back lane and front lane for the acei to have open swimming area.

I really want the acei but if they get too big ill just go with labs instead I reckon.

Any thoughts? Thanks! Ill post the tank once its all done.

Panda cory gang defeated by 1 amano shrimp

They tried their best but the amanos are a force far too strong. (Don't worry the corys already ate by the time the shrimp wafer went in)

FB strikes again

Was looking for some back up quaratine tanks when I spotted this disaster. It almost looks like a 40 breeder with maybe 28 gals in it. What is going on with that stand and why are they cooking these goldfish at 78* (i assume thats a cheap auto set heater)
