Gas vs oil heating

Recently bought an old house that will need a new heating system.
Old system is oil.

Considering moving to gas as there is already a connection at the house.

How does gas compare to oil prices these days? Which one is the most cost effective.

Heat pump isn’t really an option as the house is nowhere near draught proof/insulated enough.

Back boiler stove question

My house currently has oil central heating with a copper cylinder.
I plan to buy a thermal storage tank and a multi fuel boiler stove, I also plan to get solar panels in the future to heat the water.

Ideally I wanted the boiler stove to heat between 4- 5 radiators max, it will only be used during the winter months. I was only planning on buying a 12kw stove not the huge 20kw+

I’ve heard conflicting stories, some saying it’s not possible to only heat the 4-5 radiators and that I’d have to have it supply heat to the thermal store which then would heat all radiators (Approx 15 in entire house) and that the oil boiler would kick in when more heat was required.

Another plumber told me that yes the boiler stove could be used to heat the thermal store and then the 4-5 radiators zoned in a way that they take the heat from the top of the tank first and if I wanted to heat the other radiators that’s when the oil boiler would kick in to heat the rest of the tank?

Any advice from someone who has done this before?
My house will be getting fully replumbed and complete rewire in the coming months.
