Ephemeral packaging will not stop me.

Panning Powders is the bane of my existence. It’s so crazy how the packaging of these products are not intended to hold up for the full time it takes to use a powder, which is forever and a day. (Though I admit the wet and wild highlighter I’ve had since high school is an extreme case.) Also, powder and cream blush duos should not be equal amounts of each. It should bring a lot more cream than powder so they last a more equal amount of uses. I sincerely think these products are designed to be thrown away before they are completely used up. It’s a shame. Anyways, nothing a little depotting and magnetic palette can’t fix. I shall persist.

Two Years of Panned Makeup

Panning makeup goes so slow for me, but I’m super happy about having panned some lip products. I’ve been wearing less makeup on the daily but when I do, choosing one lip product at a time to pan works well.

Two Years of Panned Skincare: Retinols, SPF, Lip Balms and Moisturizers

After two years of collecting empties, here are my thoughts on some skincare.

Tretinoin: 10/10 WRP. It is as amazing as everyone says. The only thing that ever gave me glass skin. Will repurchase as soon as I find a new dermatologist.

Avene Retrinal: 8/10 WRP. One of my fave vitamin A options when I don’t have a prescription for Tret readily available.

Bondi Sands SPF: 5/10 WNRP. Too oily for my face.

Black Girl Sunscreen: 7/10 WRP. No white cast and smooth. Would repurchase in a pinch if I didn’t have K beauty options available.

Hero Force Shield: 9/10 WRP. Love its texture and green tint for redness.

Elf Sleep Mask: 9/10 WRP. Used as a daily moisturizer during dry winter and it saved my skin.

Laneige Lip sleeping Mask: 7/10 WNRP. Was fine but seems overhyped.

Elf Lip Mask: 7/10 WRP. Laneige dupe for cheap. Dont love the packaging for a lip balm though.

Clinique Moisture Surge lip balm: 8/10 WRP. I actually really enjoyed this and liked the feel of the round applicator.

Curel Lip Balms: 7/10 WNRP. Don’t remember it much so it must have been just alright lol.

Cerave Healing Ointment: 8/10 WRP. Great on the lips and for occasional face slugging. Would buy smaller size so I dont have the giant tube taking up space for so long.

Voesh New York Body Creme: 9/10 WRP. Got these as a free gift every time I went to my nail place. So thick and nice I used as a nightly foot creme.

Two Years of Panned Skincare: Cleansers

After two years of putting off getting rid of my “empties”, here are some thoughts on the cleansers, cleansing balms, and micellar waters I used.

Garnier Micellar Waters: 9/10 WRP. My go-to for morning cleansing. Because I go through them so quickly and it’s pretty hard to mess up a micellar waters, I realized it was a category I could be having more fun with. I’m now trying some different brands for variety.

Wonderderm Cleansing Pads: 5/10 WNRP. One of my morning cleanser experiments. Though this specific one was too fragrant for me. I’m open to trying more of this format though as a morning cleanser. The pads are convenient and much gentler than old school makeup wipes.

Clean it Zero, Good Molecules, Clinique and Elf Cleansing Balms: 9/10 WRP. All good. I’m not very picky when it comes to cleansing balms and they all get the job done and are good for oil pulling blackheads off the face.

Inkeylist cleansing balm: 7/10 WNRP. Idk why I keep giving this a chance, probably because I like the travel size tube. If you can manage to get one that hasn’t separated then it’s so good, but it’s so hit or miss and such an oily mess when you get a separated one.

Ponds Cold Creme: 8/10 WRP. One of my secret holy grails. Wish it had better packaging.

Benzoyl Peroxide Cleansers: 8/10 WRP. I always keep one of these handy in case I get an acne flair up. Cerave is my favorite.

Midha Rice Cleanser: 6/10 WNRP. A little too harsh on the skin for a daily cleanser. Let me feeling a bit stripped.

Prequel Gleanser: 10/10 WRP. My holy grail right now. Perfect amount of gentle and moisture. Love the texture. Sometimes I use it on the body too when I have sensitive skin.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser and Aveeno Calm and restore: 8/10 WRP. Both good but not better than the prequel. Would repurchase only if I didn’t have time to go to a store than had Prequel stocked.

Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser: 6/10 WNRP Did not like. Didn’t feel like it did much of anything.

Relationship to Project Pan

The past two years have been hectic for me, and though my skincare obsession had to take a back seat, keeping my empties to post here on reddit and project panning was a habit that stuck with me. Originally I began project pan as a way to have fun with beauty without overconsumption, as I was unemployed and had little money to spare. Now, I have a good stable job, live in a new country, and have money to spend on nice things, but I just can’t get myself out of the survival mindset. I think part of it is due to some obsessive tendencies I struggle with. Now I’m trying to learn how to enjoy panning the makeup I own while not prohibiting myself from buying new things ever. Anyone else struggle with their relationship to panning? I can’t bring myself to buy even one new lipstick to enjoy, not in years. I end up resenting my collection at home that will take me years to finish. Wish I could have told my younger self to never stock more makeup than I could use in a year so I could always have the fun of participating in new launches as I emptied products and needed more.
