[Console RPG] [Late-90s-ish] 2D Final Fantasy-style RPG with a solid cube/diamond-shaped airship

This one has been driving me nutso for years now... Early days tried Google, now even AI ain't helping. Much gratitude to anyone here that can crack it. Apologies as my memory is horrible...

Pretty sure its NOT any FF games, Breath of Fire, The Legend of Dragoon, Dragon Quest

Platform(s): Console — I owned NES, Genesis, PS1, and PS2, so likely one of those

Genre: 2D top-down party-based JRPG, very Final Fantasy-like, lined-up turn-based battles

Estimated year of release: Probably late 1990s

Graphics/art style: 2D sprites, top-down overworld

Notable details:

- Party of multiple characters; sea pirates feature in the story

- You get a flying vehicle late in the game that's faster than earlier travel

- The airship is the thing I remember most clearly: a solid cube or square balanced on one corner so it looks like a diamond**, with** animated tracing lines of light on it. No wings — just a geometric solid you fly fast around the overworld

- I may be mixing in another game, but I vaguely recall a party member/creature that could be flown on earlier in the game. My memory was a dragon but not certain

20 years behind a camera, watching AI explode has been bittersweet. But dreaming what’s possible on a Hollywood set with a proper budget has been NUTS.

It really has been truly bittersweet watching AI explode. If anything, this was an experiment to see how far I can take AI to drive story and human emotion. And I think considering it's limitations, not too shabby! I have a lot to say about AI, but I'll leave it there for now. Our team entered a contest called Future Vision XPRIZE. It's about "imagining an extraordinary future, and asking what we can do today to make sure humanity actually thrives in it."
