Is there something like an idiots guide to self hosting? 😂😭

I am interested in it but I don’t know much about it. Are there any good resources that explain exactly what it is, how to do it, and the advantages and disadvantages?

Is Plex a bad idea?

Thinking of paying the lifetime subscription to host movies, shows, and music and play on PC, TV, phone, and tablet anywhere. It is closed source according to my Internet search and I am new to this. I am not clear on if we should not use ANY closed-source proprietary stuff or if it’s just dependent on the company and if Plex is okay.

Coming from iPhone to Pixel with Graphene and figuring out what services I am switching to. I would like to keep the convenience and ease as much as possible without any of these companies owning all my business. Lol.

Is there a non-crypto service/app that lets you RECEIVE money without sharing your legal name or making you have a business account? International

I am in the US. Friend in the UK wants to send me some money to help me out with bills but I do not have to share my legal name or info and I’d prefer not to. I don’t so much mind if the app or service knows my info. I don’t wanna use a business account because it isn’t business. Lol.

Is there an iPhone app I can add my esim to that will get calls and texts without switching esims on my phone itself to verify apps and sites? Or computer?

Preferably free. I have a cheap Tello number simply to verify on apps and sites that make you have a number to do that. The apps generally don’t accept VOIP stuff so I did this to have a real number to use.

The issue is that I have to switch between esims on my phone and I am forgetful and often to forget to do it before I put in for the verification. 🤦‍♀️

Is there a separate app I can put the esim in to do this? Also could use a Windows PC if there is something that will let me do that but I prefer to do it on my phone if possible.

Thank you!

[Intro] Hello!

Hey there! My name is Erin. I am 38 and I live in Michigan. I am single, no kids. I am lucky to own my own home. I have an 8-year-old kitty named Mia. I worked in clerical medical positions for many years but am currently disabled and out of work which bums me out but my therapist helps me cope. 🤣

My hobbies include genealogy, baking, crocheting, journaling, and paper crafts. I play a few games but I don’t know if I could call myself a gamer yet. Lol. I have played sims games since Sims 1 when I was 12. My favorite is Sims 2. I like Sims 4 but EA has kinda pissed me off so I haven’t played that in a bit. Hahaha. Currently stuck on Sims Medieval. I also play Medieval Dynasty and Noble Legacy.

Honestly, my auADHD special interest right now seems to be medieval everything. I read a lot of stuff. I have considered a history degree but I am not sure what I could do with it or if I could make any job work to go back to work. I am considering doing some genealogy program to get better at it for myself and to potentially do a bit of freelance stuff on Fiverr or something for a bit of extra income.

Also hyperfixated on European royal families. I can tell you all sorts of random stuff about them. Lmao.

I am online a lot and am always happy to meet new people as it gets quite boring/lonely being home all the time now. Feel free to reach out and ask anything you want! :)

How much personal info is shown to the purchaser?

I don’t care if the site or Stripe or whoever have my real info. I just don’t want my legal name, address, phone, whatever shown to the person sending money.

I live in Michigan, if that matters.

I became disabled and have been fighting for disability for 3 years. As a result, my car got repossessed and I stopped payments on a credit card. The companies ended up suing me for $6,500 for the car and $1,200 for the credit card. I did not ignore the summons. I responded and showed up for court but lost.

Because I do not have an income and my house is my only asset, these will be liens on my home.

Does Chapter 7 remove liens? I understand it can wipe out judgements but I don’t know how it works if those become liens.

EDIT: I forgot to say I have used Firefox on PC and phone for a couple years.

Please be nice. I am REALLY trying. Lol.

Long time iPhone user. I have Google account and gmail but I have always used them for Youtube, Sheets, and Docs and the gmail specifically for shit I do not want to use my “real” stuff for. My email is outlook.

I am on disability because of a list of mental illnesses diagnoses that make life difficult. I’ve stuck with iPhone this long because it makes things easy. I struggle with multiple steps. But I have considered switching to an Android phone for years simply because I want control over my phone. I want to be able to put whatever app I want on it.

But all the surveillance is worrying me and I am increasingly becoming uncomfortable with the “all eggs in one basket” thing.

I can’t really get away from Facebook, FB Messenger, or Discord. Is there any point to me doing this if I am going to still use those apps? I don’t want to have to use websites because it adds steps and my brain craps out. I will be removing the few friends I have and the ability to meet more if I ditch those apps. Mental illness and being on disability is a bitch.

I am still on an iPhone 11 so it is coming up on time for a new phone. I am strongly considering a Pixel or a Fairphone with Graphene. I have used proton pass for a long time. I am willing to move email and switch to other apps for other services I use like Youtube, Sheets, and Docs. I am just worried there is no point if there are some apps I can’t rid of. I looked into modifying the iPhone to “sideload” apps but I am not interested in that or having to certify or verify stuff periodically.

I know it will be a process my brain will not enjoy but I am hoping I will still be able to make the things I do “simple” and make the transition easier.

This is just something I was curious about after I saw a Facebook post saying Duke of York probably won’t be used for awhile with the scandal over Prince Andrew.

William is Duke of Cambridge AND Prince of Wales. Could he pass Prince of Wales to George and give Duke of Cambridge to Louis? If Edward is deceased by the time a title is given to Louis, could he get Duke of Edinburgh since it wasn’t given as a hereditary peerage?

Do the children of the monarch get those titles when their parent becomes king or queen or when they marry? I know William and Harry got dukedoms when they married but they were grandchildren of the current monarch at the time. Anne didn’t get Princess Royal until 1987 and she married in 1973, it became available in 1965, and Elizabeth became queen in 1952. Not sure if she would have been made Princess Royal when her mother became queen if it’d been vacant or not.

I just find these things interesting to think about. Lol.
