Option to securely access a cloud VPS (Oracle). Or a more sophisticated VPN proxy/protocol?

Hi everyone,

I have recently set up an Oracle cloud VM ( Ubuntu in 1 ARM core + 6gb RAM) and was able to create a Wireguard VPN. I mainly want to use this VPN to access my home services and other devices ( my personal laptop, Android phone).

But due to my outside work habit where I usually go to public libraries or coffee shops, I just realize that certain public Wifi ( from one system of libraries) just plainly blocks ssh connection ( on port 2222) and wireguard connection. I cannot ssh into my vps and the wireguard VPN doesn't work.

Without caring a dime about each of these public place network system or setting, what is my next best option to bypass these kind of restrictions without much tinkering and configuring? I am not that experienced or seasoned user but willing to explore. I read and find that openvpn over tcp on port 443 would be one option? or some setup with Vless/xray but sounds overkill? how about AmneziaWireguard?

Thanks.

Do you find their shipping satisfactory?

I have got like 6 or 7 packages from them and they all came with the mailer envelope type. Half of the times, there would be some bar damage like this. The mailing package is definitely not good enough, especially when they are getting rough handled during shipping.

Mildly infuriated by one thing but generally happy with this. Costco nigiri $15.50

Nothing beats Panda Express 15 minutes before closing :D. A bigger plate. 2 meals.

Are their deodorant worth buying?

I'm only using their bar soap.

Warning: they might censor your review on their page

I got the expired Area 51 and Mars bundle. I took a picture of them (I also recorded the moment I opened the package and retrieved the soaps out of it, just in case). Then, I left a low-star review on the bundle page about 6 hours ago. Nothing was shown about it and surprisingly the bundle page was gone on the site moment later, but is still accessible if you search it on Google. New 5 star review as latest as 2 hours ago is there but none of mine. Until now I got an email from them asking for a replacements.

Just saying some about their transparency.

Koreader night mode on Kobo Aura H2O original ( N250)

Hi, I just revitalize my old Kobo Aura H20 (N250, original edition, 10 year old already). I updated the firmware to 4.38.23684, installed NickelMenu, and installed Koreader (kobo) v2026.03. Koreaders runs pretty great on the files I am trying. However, the night mode seems to be broken which toggling it doesn't have any effect.

I know dark-mode is possibly working on this old device, since I am able to invert the screen from nickelmenu on the main screen. This would make the menu and built-in reader run in dark-mode. But, this invertion has no effect whenever koreader runs.

I just prefer koreader because it is just better for handling PDF files with a lot of customization and great reflow feature.

Does anyone have any issue with night-mode on their (older) Kobo devices? Or are there any stable versions that work better for older kobo devices?

Thank you!

EDIT: I found the fix. So, I decided to downgrade to v2025.10 and while I read the github page of koreader, I came upon user patches. One of them is related with nightmode-hardware-invert thing. I applied the patch like instructed. The nightmode is fixed and I can enjoy reading now :).

Kobo aura h2o original. Resurrected

I got this original edition back in 2015. I used it sparingly and left it completely untouched for years. Today, I found it in my old stuff bin and gave it a try.

I had to uninstall the KSM 7 ( no longer supported) and took sometime to upgrade the firmware, install nickelmenu and koreader. I am taken aback at how it still runs pretty smoothly. Like koreader runs finely with turning pages and menu movement. Though I'm worried about the battery since it's been sitting so long unused. Well, I'm gonna give it some days and see how it goes.

Shower thought ( with Dr. squatch): Why don't they and sell soap sample?

Like , cutting them into 0.2-0.5 oz ( similarly to those candy rectangle Hershey pieces) and assorting them into cellophane individually in one box. There are so many scents in their whole collection and I want to try. This would help customer not feeling regretful buying things that they never know what to expect.

EDIT: another second thought, this would be great for those short travel/trip/hiking/whatever . Hotel/motel gives out these small bar soaps in their toiletries.
