Is the SG Junior my holy grail?
So I have always loved the SG. Had an Epiphone SG for years and years and years (20 years?), but it wasn't ever great. It was from the "low quality" Epiphone era, and it was what I could afford at the time.
When I retired I decided to give myself a treat and I bought a brand new 2024 Gibson SG in this gorgeous silver-to-black finish.
And I play it ... but not much. I don't feel any personality from it. All my other guitars have been used and have some mojo to them from their history. The shiny new SG though just kinda leaves me flat.
Another aspect of my annoyance with the SG is all the knobs I never use. I pretty much just leave them all wide open all the time.
So I started wondering if an SG Junior is what I am looking for ... simple electronics that I'd probably vibe more with, and an older model will be worn in and feel more "lived in" than a new one ...
But I see so few of them for sale, and none really near me that I can just try out.
What is your take on the SG Junior, both pro and con? What questions am I not asking, or other considerations am I forgetting?
(I know many old SGs often have had the headstock broken off and repaired, so I am a little leery of buying a guitar that was last mass produced in 1971. But I am sure I can find one that was well repaired or undamaged to begin with. Or maybe a later reissue?)
