Owl

Not too happy with yesterday’s effort. I found it difficult to get the feathers right. My sister said it looks like embroidery. I added the reference photo for comparison. Perhaps I shouldn’t have added the guache dots to the eyes. 😂

Wren

Today I drew a wren. I guessed the colours and I think I got it right. Perhaps you will let me know if I didn’t. My favourite piece so far.

I used Bristol Board and Prismacolour pencils.

My second small bird

After completing my UK Blue Tit, I decided to draw a UK Goldfinch to see if I have improved. I think I have. Some way to go though. I posted this earlier but it seems to have disappeared so if you see it twice, sorry! 🤪

My Blue Tit I completed today

Hi everyone, I did this in my art class today. I’ve put it on my little stand to look at it occasionally to see what is wrong. My first thoughts are that he/she is too fat. The head looks a bit pointy too. I’ve included the reference photo. What do you think? My husband was not very impressed 🤣.

Should I do this?

Good morning! Just joined this group. As I have already mentioned, I’m new to art. I have dabbled in charcoal, watercolour, pointillism, colour pencils, soft pastels, graphite and fine liner ink. Sounds a lot but each has been covered in my two hour art session on a weekly course. Tasters really. My question is should I learn all the technical stuff? I’m loving art but do I really need to waste time on the endless practice of cubes, spheres etc. I’m 70 and am loving this. So little time and so much to do. Will there come a point where I can’t improve because I didn’t do that groundwork?

Hello

Thank you for the invite to join the club. I’m a beginner, since January this year. I can see that you are all quite far down the artistic route so I hope that with practice I may come closer to the standards you are exhibiting. Be assured, I will keep working on it.

Advice needed please

Can anyone tell me how to make my crow darker please. I have used black a tiny bit but trying to use other colours so that he is more vibrant. Beginner here. 😀

Colin loves the bidet

Well, today Colin spotted our water feature. He jumped up onto it and used it as a bidet, soaked his food and had a good old drink. He is living his best life. Meanwhile, missus is sitting on the nest doing what all good mothers do. She did quickly drop in for a quick drink today before shooting off back to the nest. Love my crowbie friends. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🖤🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

Here is Colin. I know it is him because of the grey on his tail feathers and he has two large white circles on his upper dear wings. A bit like a plane. He is enjoying some off cuts of chicken. He likes to soak things before flying to the nest. He has been spoilt of late. Off cuts from fillet steaks at the weekend and the day after, the bones from a couple of lamb shanks which he stripped clean. He is one very spoilt dude.

I finished this today. I seem to be obsessed with the moon and crows. The crow doesn’t look quite right to me.

Hi, I started dabbling with art in January and have discovered charcoal. Never done art in my life.

I think I have all the stuff I need having read up but now I need to practice. This is what I created from a reference photo. Should I be pleased with this or should I choose another medium? I quite like the moodiness charcoal offers. Any tips/youtube artists etc would be much appreciated. I’d quite like to do my own stuff but I have such limited experience and I guess this can only come with practice and time. I am not keen on portraits. Thank you all.
