Fawn in FC Polychromos- tips welcome for getting detail in mini animal portraits!

Just finished this cutie. Been trying to do quicker and smaller drawings in my art journal. Trying to learn how to get detail in there while keeping it small so I can do mini pet portraits as gifts. This is about 4x6. Do you all have any tips that have helped you make smaller drawings without losing detail and quality? I’m thinking I’d like to aim for closer to 3x2 or like a 4x4 square.

Can I call it DONE now??

Spent a bit more time on it this weekend, mostly just a few details and touch ups. Applied the feedback I got from you fine folks and I think it looks good! (Although Ive been staring at it for too long).

I think it's done right?? Anything else need to be done here??

My first color portrait with only color pencils

Jesus the amount of time it takes to layer the skin tone and still looks a bit patchy. Im so use to using alcohol markers as base which is 20x faster 😭

Could someone recommend me economic alcohol markers brands to mix with colored pencils?

I had an unbranded alcohol marker lying around, and I liked how the combination of using it as a base for colored pencil turned out. But I have no intention of drawing only with markers, so expensive brands like Copic seem like a nonsense to me. Is there any recommendation you have?

Two months of progress.

I picked up colored pencils 2 months ago. Mostly as a way to pass time. What started off as a 50 Faber-Castell black edition, a Strathmore mixed media sketch book, and zero understanding of colored pencils. Has morphed in a full set of prisma color, about 70 alcohol markers, and lots of scrap paper learning.

While I can see progress. I see places I can still improve, but im not sure if the probelm is the paper, the pencils, or my skill ability yet, but im still working the kinks out.

“Are You Even Listening?” - Polychromos on Canson Bristol 250gsm

Finished this piece of a pair of Irish wagtails and framed it up yesterday. I wanted him to have the vacant stare of being zoned out and her to look like she’s just had enough of him for one day.

It’s framed in a Larsson Juhl Japanese black lacquer piano frame with green velvet mount and museum grade anti-reflective glass.
