Got told to go home today from prac- am i overreacting?
~~~~EDIT: read all the comments at time of edit. thanks for your perspectives. i was clearly in a shitty mood lol when i wrote this, i feel much better now and have a plan to do better tmr. ~~~~
was told to go home from placement bc i started crying when my CNF told me the nurses who were with me said i looked uninterested and disengaged (from my face and body language). i didn’t feel that way. i really like this placement and what i get to do. They also said i didn’t talk or interact much with the patient- mostly true. I don’t know what to say plus the nurses already start talking so i don’t want to interrupt. but when they weren’t around, i started talking more, engaging and all that.
also “listens and responds appropriately to feedback” is currently marked as NYC- probably bc i started crying. no shit, i had no idea i came off as bored- i don’t want to fail bc of how i am naturally?
i hope they don’t find out about my mental health issues or ADHD and think its affecting my placement and tell me to quit and go for another job. i don’t want to discuss all of that. bc its not? ADHD is, but i’m medicated, finding ways to help myself and besides it’s my first time in a hospital, i don’t know the workload, or environment- i’m making adjustments as i go. i still don’t even fully understand it myself (ADHD).
Also, im a fucking teenager!!! and a student. tf do i know. guess i’ll just have to get over it and be all overtly cheery and sunshine and rainbows and tmr. and for 10 more days.
First placement in a hospital setting
First time here. I'm a second-year nursing student, and this is my first placement in a hospital (second placement overall). My first/last placement before was in aged care, which was slightly disappointing. I already knew I didn't want to work in aged care, but I kept an open mind throughout it, and it still kinda sucked. Mainly due to a lack of supervision, being dismissed, and not being allowed to do things (they were within scope). I really hope this time it's better, with more support, engagement and learning.
Any tips on how to make the most of it? And how to stand up for yourself professionally?
