Construction job market

Hey everyone,

I’m currently thinking about moving to Vancouver from Toronto in the future. I wanted to ask how the construction job market is there right now, especially for someone trying to build a long-term career since the job market in Toronto is horrible

Ive been working as a carpenter with 3 yoe and advanced dip of construction management. I’m interested in getting into the construction management side eventually (project coordinator, estimator, site management, PM, etc.), but I know I’ll probably need to start with field experience first. I have some exposure to construction already and I’m willing to work my way up.

How’s the industry looking?
- Are companies hiring steadily?
- Which sectors seem busiest right now (residential, commercial, infrastructure)?
- Is it realistic to move into management roles after gaining experience locally?
- Any advice for someone trying to break into construction management in BC?

Would appreciate any honest insight from people working in the industry there. Thanks!

Construction Job Market

Hey everyone,

I’m currently working in construction in Ontario and thinking about moving to Calgary in the future. I wanted to ask how the construction job market is there right now in general.

How’s the demand for trades like carpentry, drywall, framing, renovations, or handyman work? Is it easy to find steady work? How are wages compared to the cost of living nowadays?

Also, for people already working in the industry there:

  • Are companies hiring actively?
  • Is work mostly residential, commercial, or industrial?
  • Any advice for someone moving from Ontario?

Would appreciate any honest insights about the current situation in Calgary construction. Thanks!
