Advice: Long Runs & Marathon in Adidas Hyperboost Edge

I am 3.5 weeks out from my marathon and struggling to decide which shoe to run in. I used to wear the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4/5, which used to work for me for half marathons. Interestingly, been getting a ton of pressure on bottom of forefoot/balls of my feet recently in some of my training runs, so I had to scrap them.

I went to get a new foot analysis yesterday and the person said that as a forefoot striker with high arches, my foot likely isn’t compatible with most carbon plated shoes. He recommended a bouncier daily trainer for my marathon. He had me try the ASICS SonicBlast 2, Hyperboost Edge, and Glycerin Max.

I ended up going with the Hyperboost Edge and tested it on 6 miles today. What I found, was that while holding easy pace 9:45-10:00/mile I felt some forefoot pressure (not as bad as Saucony), but when I speed up to my marathon pace 8:45-8:55/mile, a lot of the pressure goes away. It’s definitely still a gamble to go with these shoes for a race.

However, any experience with this shoe, tips to breaking it in, and how to find balance of testing it over my next few weeks? Especially knowing most of my remaining miles are at an easier pace.

I have 8 easy tomorrow and 22 miles on Saturday but not sure I want to full commit to that.

Other option is to keep wearing my daily trainers, Saucony Hurricane 25, through this week and maybe try to test on a medium long run 9-10 miles next week at more of a marathon pace.

Is it too close to the race and do I just go with old reliable, the Saucony Hurricane, even for the marathon??

Having decision paralysis - so any advice or wisdom is so appreciated!!!

Race Day Shoes for High Arches and Overpronation

Hey everyone! This sub saved my life with daily trainer recs for my foot profile. I got the Saucony Hurricane because of this subreddit and absolutely love them. I also have ASICS Superblast which I do notice my pronation in a bit more but I still like them for the bounce.

I have super high arches and I tend to pronate. I’m working on glute med strength and all that for the pronation, but my PT said it might never fully go away and takes time. I’m looking for race day/carbon plated shoe recs.

Right now, I have a pair of the Saucony Endorphin Pros and I do like them, but looking to see if anyone else has any other shoes they like guidance from others with a similar foot profile to mine. Any other shoes you like for your race days?

Recs for overpronation and high arches

Look for some advice from fellow overpronators and high arches. See screenshot proof of how crazy high these arches are. 😂

I’ve been ongoing dealing with soleus/post tib tenderness during my most recent training block I’m working on improving cadence + foot strength/mobility to help, but also looking for a shoe that might provide better support.

I’ve most recently used the ASICS Gelnimbus and Glideride but don’t know if I loooove either. Especially the gelnimbus, I almost feel like I see my foot pronating when I walk in them lol. I also wear the Curex arch inserts.

Any tips or recs for shoes?

Mileage Advice between Half and Marathon

Just ran a half yesterday. For my training block, I started building base mileage in mid-November and then did ~12 week training block peaking around 31-32 miles. I was definitely feeling it toward the end of my training block as I also have been dealing with some calf/soleus tightness (working on it in PT) but the training and focus on PT work paid off. 6 min PR compared to my half last year at 1:48.

I’m running my (first) marathon in November and would love any advice on mileage between blocks and also during the marathon based on my history (and being a bit injury prone).

I’ll likely take a week or so off running, but what should I aim to keep my mileage at between late May to mid-July?

I will likely plan to do a 16-week training block starting Jul 13. Open to marathon plans to follow based on my history and current mileage too!

Heading to Malaga this summer and looking for hotel recommendations. Were two 30F traveling and want to be close to beach or stay somewhere that helps with beach (ie has rentals for gear). However, also want to be close to good restaurants and bars in the evening. Any recs?

I’ve seen a lot about staying in the Historic Center, which I’m open to if there are still ways to access the beach (close walk, shuttles). Thanks!
