NoHo Market at NoHo Station starting this Saturday!

Just found out about this at the SFV Service Council meeting. This is part of Metro's "Station Activation" program. Not sure how great this flea market is because I've never been to it, but I really love to see this! It's always great to see our stations livened up in some way. Should be worth checking out if you're around. The presenter said that as of now this should be lasting till December at least.

Also, on a slightly related note if anyone is interested, there is a farmer's market at Valley College from 9am-2pm every Sunday that's accessible via the Valley College G Line station which I have been to several times and do love. Surprised Metro hasn't worked with sponsoring them yet considering it's right across the station.

Mini Update on Metro’s Universal City/Studio City Station Joint Development Site

Just received this email regarding the housing plans for Universal/Studio City station. Looks like it's progressing well as of now. I really hope the plans aren't hindered or delayed in any way, this station is in desperate need of lots of development.

Here's project website they linked in the email.

Bus Stops Downtown…

I’m here in downtown and I got lost looking for the 60/62 bus stops which were said to be on 6th/Hill on the Transit app AND Google Maps but wasn’t listed on the Metro sign along the other buses that stop there like the 18 and a couple others … I kept walking in circles looking for it but decided to just wait at that stop where all the other buses were listed and it did end up coming there lol. Felt like a newb riding Metro looking lost and shit.

Is this just some sort of new mistake because the stop was moved or something? I’ll probably report it to customer relations if that’s the case. Or is it one of those things where those who live here and are familiar with the area just know it stops there without the signage actually being there lol? Just curious. Really funny experience, whenever I come here I’m usually able to get to where I need to go without getting lost even if I’m not super familiar with the area.

Transit has introduced trip sharing

I think this is really cool, pretty much similar to the share your ETA feature on Apple Maps which only works with driving trips.

California Bus Stop Registry Bill Approved by the Legislature!

This is a story about bus stops and our transformative legislation, AB 1599, that sets the foundation for a more seamless and integrated transit system throughout California!

There are over ten thousand bus stops in Los Angeles County alone and with 250+ transit agencies, hundreds of thousands statewide. And we simply don’t know where most of them are!

The result is a physical stop shows up differently across apps, confusing rider and making it harder to make your connection. For a rider with a disability, it makes it even harder to catch your ride.

Move LA’s sponsored bill, Assembly Bill 1599, ends this chaos by creating a California Bus Stop Registry and assigning every stop in the State a California ID so when your map app pulls it up, it is automatically correct!

For Riders, AB 1599:

  • Creates a seamless transfers across agencies and modes
  • Supports accessibility and equity investments
  • Eliminates (expensive) custom trip planning apps
  • Future-proofs systems for modernization
  • Makes capital planning easier

Now AB 1599 sits on the Governor’s desk waiting his signature! Let’s do this!

Bus Bay Numbers at Noho Station

I don’t use the B line very often so I’m not sure exactly how new this is but today I noticed they put up the bus bay numbers at each of their respective shelters/benches at the bus plaza which I found pretty cool.

Can’t wait for when this bus plaza is upgraded for the NoHo-Pas BRT, which I assume (hope) also means adding more shade all around, since they did mention adding a canopy (similar to the G line side) during one of the project meetings. Improvements are desperately needed.

LA transit is surprisingly good

I don't know whether it is because of FIFA but the metros are clean and the stations feel well maintained even in downtown stations. The new stations look great.

To be fair I used a pretty small portions of the system, mostly D line since my hotel was in Koreatown. Wilshire / La Cienega and the LACMA stations are spacious and decorated; The downtown stations are well signaged (even though there are some confusion on whether to tap when exiting or not).

I took the bus line 16 after seeing a show in Beverly Grove back to Ktown at night and the bus was super busy and the streets are full of people. The metros in comparison are quite empty all the time.

The new K line from LAX is cute but smells a bit. Also the stations do feel like they are in the middle of nowhere most of the times.

Overall I feel like the transit system was a great experience for me but it probably just isn't suitable or isnt enough for LA because of the massive size and sprawl of the city.

And LA is such a cool city that it so deserves a good transit to get people out of their cars.

What's your experience / opinion of its current form?

Who brings color to Metro? Meet our team of painters

Pretty cool video Metro posted just now. They even went into the repaint of the NoHo Station dome. Shout out to these hard workers for maintaining all our facilities!

Transit Watch App is back up as of today

Haven’t tried to submit a report, but it looks like it’s back up. Don’t know how long it’s been up and running again but last I checked was two days ago so it probably started working just this morning or yesterday.

Edit: Welp apparently it's down again... Sorry guys. Refer to the number I put in the replies in case you need to report something though.

Another edit: I think it's just glitchy right now since it just came back up. It's giving me the option to submit again. Try exiting in and out of the app a few times to see if it comes back up for you.

DASH Electric Buses

A while back I made a post about how I rode the electric DASH buses for the first time when I went to downtown for jury duty since we only have one route here in the SFV that uses em (Pacoima) and I don’t ride that route.

However, today at the Union Station Bus Plaza I got slightly startled by this announcement that the bus emitted, which I had no idea they had, lmao!

Is this new or had I just not heard it since I barely see them? Whenever I do see them here in the SFV they’re never turning so assume that’s why. I think it’s a pretty cool feature though.

Union Station Customer Service Center TAP Cards

I’ve constantly heard that the Customer Service Centers have old TAP card designs. Decided to stop by the one at Union Station today to see which ones they had and hopefully buy a few but the lady at the window told me they do not carry any old ones just newly released ones? Did I misunderstand what people on here have always said or something lol I felt so dumb.

She was very nice though. Told me they currently only have the FIFA and Memorial Day ones and suggested I join the Facebook group to trade cards with people.

Did manage to snag one of the new D line designs that I had wanted at Little Tokyo station though, so it makes up a bit for the L a bit lmao!

Metro reposted this person’s post on Twitter that said there’s six different TAP cards for the extension and some are apparently already available at select stations… Has anyone snagged any? I had no idea! I was here wondering when they’d reveal the design. Metro themselves also haven’t officially said anything about them as far as I have seen…
