I've been trying to identify these rocks I found near San Francisco last year but haven't figured it out.

-found at Marshall's Beach (near the Golden Gate Bridge) and Rockaway Beach (in Pacifica)

-does not scratch (steel nail left metal line that rubs off)

-all are translucent green, looks kinda like a waxy translucency when dry

-I know not all of these are necessarily the same type of rock, but the qualities seemed pretty similar for all. There were two distinct colors that I separated them into, one darker and one lighter

My guesses so far:

- initially I thought Serpentine because that is common in that area, but I think because it doesn't scratch it's not serpentine

-next guess bc of the green is nephrite jade, but I couldn't really find any photos that matched the way these look

-I'm thinking now these might be green chert? The dry appearance matches other non-green pieces I've identified as chert

-another guess I came across is tree agate?

Found this at Indian Beach (Ecola State Park) in Oregon, never seen anything like this on the coast. 4 inches long, relatively light, not magnetic. It's very dark unless in direct sun or lit. The sharpness of the edges reminds me of the look of obsidian (although it's not actually too sharp). There's some tiny bits of translucency across the top of the rock, but it's very minimal.

Web searches point to slag or serpentine but it doesn't exactly match.

1st photo is in sunlight, 2nd is not lit, 3rd is taken with a flash to accentuate the colors.

In today's episode of "I wanted this, this didn't exist, so I made this," I created a chart covering the personnel + credits on Ego Death.

Why did I do this? Well, going through an album's liner notes has always been a big part of the new album experience for me, in particular seeing who performed on or contributed to individual songs. This is how I learned that Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon) was the higher harmony vocal on Guns N' Roses' "Don't Cry" back in the day. Hopefully this is of interest to you as well!
