Going to look at my second Ghia, it's a project and probably a bad idea 🤣

Going to look at my second Ghia, it's a project and probably a bad idea 🤣

I haven't had a Ghia since high school. Went through a rash of aircooled VWs in the late 90s early 00s. My wife has always wanted a Ghia since she first rode in mine. She had a bug for a while but it.didnt scratch the itch. We are going to look at a project tomorrow, any aircooled and vw specific things to look for I probably forgot about? I'm fairly good with mechanicals, I build choppers for fun and have a shop with a fair amount of tools, welders, lathes etc so I can handle most jobs.

Please help me make my GM Performance 350/290 not suck.

So during covid I bought this motor to replace the 305 in my Fj40. It was brand new from summit, i thought it sounded perfect. Over the last 6 years I've been fighting it and finally got it going somewhat reliably winter before last. Seemed to start and run nice but wouldn't pull a hill for beans. I was living at 7600 feet and all my I can fix it knowledge want helping me get any more power.

Looking online there are a ton of opinions on why this engine sucks and how to make it better. The FJ is a rock crawler with a rones of plate armor on the bottom weighing it down. It's running a gm 465 trans, tube headers, dual plane intake, and a 500cfm carb. I also have a 600. It has low gears, can't remember off the top of my head what, and 35s.

I'm looking for an economical recommendation of heads and cam to give this thing more low rpm grunt, the ability to pull hills and a top speed of 70-75ish for cruising desert highways now that I'm back in Vegas.

Last time we mounted the Chevelle rear end and started getting the th350 sorted. Today we started on the brakes, measured for a drive shaft and a few other odds and ends. I only get one weekend a month to put into it, should be done in 4 years right?
