Thimbles? Leather Thimbles?

I am hitting a wall here. I have a frustrating callus on the pad of my middle finger from pushing needles through canvases for 20+ years that frequently splits (I have no idea how else to describe this, sorry!) right down the middle and exposes much more sensitive skin. This makes it very uncomfortable to stitch and I'm struggling with how best to deal with it. I currently use either these leather thimble pads or I wrap a fabric bandaid around my finger when this happens and I'm not a huge fan of either option, so I am coming to y'all in the hopes that someone here has a better solution.

I have tried silicone and traditional metal thimbles, but these are not great because I have medium-to-long-ish nails and I hate the fact that I can no longer feel the canvas/thread as I'm using it. The leather thimble pads are just okay - they're thick, so they do protect my finger, but again, I lose some sensation and for some reason, I always feel like the one I'm wearing (even when it's a brand new one) is about to peel off. Bandaids leave adhesive residue on my skin and nail, plus they take a while to dry if I wash my hands, and I don't want my threads and canvas getting wet.

I've been looking at this thimble tape, but am worried about adhesive residue on my finger and the potential for residue to be left on my canvas/thread. What are y'all using if you have a similar issue? Please tell me someone has a solution! Thank you in advance :)
