Handed in notice while being off sick. Been told to come back into the office
Hi UK based. I've been signed off sick leave by the GP for the past 4 weeks. I've informed my US based manager and her US based manager, on a call before I officially return to work from sick leave, that I'm resigning.
We had a 3 minute conversation which they ended with we will get back to you next week on what we would like from you. They did not asked me why or if I'm going to a competitor. Nor if I am fit enough to return to the office. I did say I was happy to do a handover and they were clear on making sure I share everything, which after being off for a few weeks isn't much. They seemed surprised and told me I was incorrect about a 2 month notice period for VPs. I only wish that was true...
Three hours after our call, my manager emailed to say I need to be in the office next week and handover for the next two months.
I don't feel fit to physically go back into the office.
I have a lot of holiday leave left, am I right in thinking I can take this over the next two months or can they reject it?
The person I am handing over to is also US based so unclear why I can't do this remotely. I did reply saying given my recent health conditions I am not in position to return to the office and happy to hand over remotely, happy to liaise with HR on arrangements. Should I ask my GP for a note advising work from home or they can reject that and force me to be in the office?
I'm pretty stressed by this as I don't understand this push for me to be in the office when I am resigning and it seemed being on sick leave has caused me to burn bridges.
Would really appreciate any advice as I don't trust anyone on my team at this point. Thank you!
