Any suggestions on this 2 day route in the Auvergne region of France?

I am thinking to do the following bike route. I need to get to Massiac for work and am hoping to make the trip fun. I will do the trip over two days.

My planned route so far is Clermont-Ferrand, Saint-Nectaire, Monneaux, Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, Chanterelle, Allanche, Massiac.

Anyone have any advice on this route? I would be happy to modify it with any advice from someone familiar with the region. I am looking for a balance of mountain riding and more relaxed valley riding as I'm not very fit right now. I hope to find cheap accommodation along the way as I won't have space to bring a tent. Any advice is most appreciated !

I've got a nice raleigh randonneur touring bike from the late 80s, and the brazed on rack mount has broken off from the rear triangle.

I guess I could have it brazed back on (or possibly do it myself), but this will burn the paint and create another problem.

Is it a crazy idea to clean up the surfaces and then glue the rack mount on with two-part epoxy? Is this likely to have any strength to it?
