Hey everyone, considering a VW Atlas for my wife and I. It's about the only thing that comes close to a Chevy Traverse in size but doesn't come at the price of a terrible transmission and engine.

I guess I'm looking for suggestions. We have about $26,000 to spend and I can find decent deals around me for various years with different mileage on it. We are not big on towing or power so I think the V6 engine might be a little too robust but I know it's reliable. Because of this I'm thinking we go with the 2.0 turbo as well as it being more fuel efficient. It feels like it would best suit our needs.

Should I be looking at a specific year model or should I really try to push for a 2024 Gen 4 engine? My wife and I really don't care about trim levels, maybe as long as it's not the base model, but I know that there are plenty of safety features.

Is it recommended to buy a CPO-only vehicle? Curious because the warranty would be nice but I know these engines are tanks if they are well taken care of. I understand they also have notorious water pump leaks; we'll be sure to make sure this is okay before buying.

Thanks!

I posted on here recently about my wife and I’s decision to get a used car in a midsize SUV tier. Our original three choices were between the Honda pilot, Kia Telluride, and also the Chevy traverse. Yes I know these choices are very different.

Today we test rode a Telluride and I didn’t dislike it, although I think her biggest concern really was the size. To her it felt like a crossover. We came from a 2013 Buick enclave and she preferred that lifted size.

I’m having a hard time deciding on buying a Chevy traverse, I’ve heard nothing but problems for the most part. I don’t think I would be necessarily on opposed if there was good feedback about it. Honda pilot doesn’t seem like a bad choice either, but I think that maybe we can include looking at a VW Atlas?
