Looking for riding buddies?

Just got my KLR, and I bought it to get out of town more. I'm in Grand Forks, North Dakota. My plan was to take it up to Winnipeg and down to Fargo on the weekends. Anybody in the area wanna do some riding?

I haven't ridden in 20 years, so I'm re-learning my skills. I'm not ready for off-road yet. Just wanna do some street cruising and some "short" trips.

The Dash (Display)

Just got my KLR yesterday (2024 Gen 3 Adventure model) and as you can all imagine rode it around town with a huge grin on my face for hours.

At first I was riding in the middle of the afternoon, and I could read the speedo, fuel gauge and odometer (and other data) clearly. But then I went out again last night as the sun was going down, and I found it hard to read. At first I thought there must be a backlight button that I needed to switch on. So I pulled over and fiddled with it, but could find no way to backlight or illuminate it. It was still readable, but very dark.

It wasn't until after the ride when I pulled into my garage (which is VERY dark) that I realized there was a minimal backlight already on. But it was what I would consider quite weak. Is there a way to turn up the brightness on that thing?

A buddy of mine loaned me a helmet the other day that fit me so well I took a photo so I could find one later and buy it. But I can't find any info on "Cirus." I find Cirrus, and Cyrus, but no Cirus. Are these even made anymore?

I haven't ridden in 20 years. in high school I owned a 250 Honda Rebel (my very first bike, the one I learned on), and later in life as an adult I got a used CB650 Nighthawk that I rode all over Utah with my girlfriend on the back. I've been wanting one again for over a year, and decided this year I'm going to get one.

I loved that old Nighthawk, and thought it would be great to get another CB from Honda. But I am hesitant to get a a used one- because I'm not a mechanical guy and would be at the mercy of someone else when it needed work (and used bikes always need work). I hate the look of the new ones (those damn Hornets, they are so ugly). So I looked around and around, and around, and obsessed over it for too long.....

Long-story-short (too late) I went into my local Kawasaki shop this weekend and test rode a new KLR650. Needless to say it was a blast (just look at the big smile on my face). Now I'm considering getting one, but here's what bothers me... I am totally not the demographic for this bike. I have never ridden in dirt or off-road. I am strictly a street rider, and i want a bike to make weekend trips up to Winnipeg and down to Fargo (I live in Grand Forks). Will I be regretting it down the road? Will I find myself asking "why the hell did get a dirt bike??" I certainly do not plan to take it on typical "adventure rides" just road trips. I'm even considering putting street tires on it. Am I out of my mind?

I could go on, but I'll stop there. More than a little curious as to what people in this Reddit group think of the idea.
