Thoughts on the 5 year helmet lifespan

Thoughts on the 5 year helmet lifespan

Saw this guy claiming the he was using a old arai helmet when he crashed at 240 km/h, he claims that his head hit this boulder and he lived to tell the tale.

Do you think this is possible?

A lot of people on the arai group seem to think that the 5-7 year expiration of the EPAl liner is just a suggestion

What are your thoughts?

Do you prefer mx helmets or full face helmets?

I'm curious which one is preferred and why.

Gear came today!!

As promised here are some pictures for you my fellow gear friends😁. The suit is brand new and still has the protective film over the titanium sliders/protectors. I’m so Happy with my purchase.

Few days ago I was asking everyone’s preference on these 3 gloves, and now that I’ve tried them all, I thought I’d give my thoughts.

It becomes immediately apparent that the Rev’it gloves are inferior to both of these other models. The quality of materials wasn’t even particularly close either. I find it ironic that they are the most expensive of the bunch. The Scorpion SG3 gloves were much better quality and construction. I don’t really have anything negative to say about them. Seem like a great glove. This competition didn’t end up being close though. RST’s Tractech Evo 4’s quality outshines both the others, a lot over the Rev’it SRS5’s. What put it over the top was how much more supple the leather was on the inside vs the scorpions. These Rev’its should be $100 max, even then, cheap and overpriced. RST Reigns Supreme!

Is Class A rating worth buying over AA for the same price

I see tons of class A garments for similar prices as some AA garments. Specifically jackets.

Im curious on your opinion from the protection standpoint. I know class A usually has better ventilation than AA, and that’s what you’re buying. But for some reason I cannot justify buying a slightly better ventilated class A jacket over an AA jacket for the same price. And I live in Texas. It’s hot. Just saw a class A garment worth more than my RST Ventilator XT CE AA jacket. Idk.

Is wearing class A worth it to you if you have an AA option? If so, why or why not?

Hot weather gear

My soap box is why don’t companies that make COMFORTABLE (expensive) leathers make leathers in white, at speed black does fine. But I want to daily a 2 piece and it’s murder in the summer heat in black

Pandomoto fit question

Hi so about a month of owning the Pandomoto AA base layers, I realized because of my "hourglass" figure, the jacket starts to ride up which would not be good if I were to slide or something. Any advice? Or should I just get new gear that is a looser fit? But then wouldn't that defeat the purpose? Should I get leathers that zip together? Any suggestions appreciated thank youuu

Also the sizes were what fits the other parts of me better. A size larger would be too large, a size smaller would be too small.

New Moto boots

Red Wing Heritage, Jim Green, Grant Stone. Nicks Handmade. This is almost $2,000 worth of boots, but they are not motorcycle boots and not vented.

So I got these Indie Ridge Knights.

TCX Airtech 3 touring boots

First pair of riding boots, no idea about proper fit. Is this gap intentional to allow more pivot, or just space for pants to stuff in? They're TCX Airtech 3 touring boots, and have enough flex to pivot already without the gap it seems. I just want to make sure these aren't a bad fit on me.

Five RFX4 Evo - too big or just right?

I just received my first pair of gloves and I'm not quite sure how the fit should feel.

When I put them on, I did feel a bit of resistance when making it through the wrist area but after that they felt snug around the wrist and didn't come off very easily. There is some looseness around the palm area when my fingers are bent though.

My thumb, pointer and middle fingers reach the ends of the glove quite comfortably and feel somewhat snug, but the ring and pinky have quite a bit of free room. I made a little crease where my pinky finger ends, above the crease is free room (2nd picture). I have a size 2XL and if I were to downsize to XL, I feel like my fingertips would dig into the glove.

I also sat with the gloves on gripping the handlebars of a bicycle for around 20 minutes to see how they feel and did not feel any tightness or discomfort, my thumb did not fatigue.

I've heard that gloves should be snug and feel "like a second skin", but there are some loose areas on my hand (palm, ring and pinky fingers). Is having such looseness in the glove normal? Should I keep them or return?

Difference in boots help

Howdy y’all. I own a hiking style 8in tall leather boot that I have been using as riding boots. I am saftey conscious and was curious if my current boots are sufficient for protection? Is upgrading to a $500+ pair of riding boots like something from alpine that much of an upgrade? Thanks everyone and ride safe.

Adventure helmet or dirt bike helmet?

I dont have a bike YET, however im interested the CRF150 or the KLX150 to use for both off roading and on street use, im planning on buying gear this weekend however im not sure which helmet would be better? Im not gonna be doing any highway use, just riding around town and occasionally off road to do things like camping. Any feedback for helmet or general gear would be much appreciated 🙏

New Boots [RST Tractech Evo D3O]

The leather boot is the Alpinestars J-Cult Drystar that I bought in April. Apparently my gear lever likes tearing up boots.

That being said, the RST boots feels different for me since it feels more like my feet is being put into a cast and is snug so it's something Im trying to get used to. Had to size down from a US size 10 to a US size 9 as I felt there was more heel movement inside the boot, but my feet are a size 9.5.

R10 Pinlock causing scratch

I have two Alpinestar R10’s with this issue. I got both of the pin locks installed by motorcycle shops, what is causing this? I’ve never had this happen to other brands of helmets before. Both of the visors in both helmets look like this, keep in mind one of the helmets I use maybe once every 4 months so it barely even sees the sun/rain. The other I use daily.

Edit: One of the helmets I’ve had for ~8 months, however only used maybe 3-4 times and only at night with no rain.

Other helmet I’ve had for ~4 months, used daily.

The pinlock was installed day of purchase by the workers at the gear shop. The damage is only INSIDE the visor, if you run your fingers across it you can feel a rough surface where the frosting is.

Update: I’ve just taken the helmets back to the vendor I got them from and they’re giving me new visors, it’s apparently a common issue with the R10 visors and the newer gen pinlocks. Thanks for everyone’s help!

Motorcycle gear is insanely better than in 2010.

I did a sort of one shot shop back around ~2010. There was ce rated gear and some gps options, but everything was insane expensive. Ended up with a bunch of shitty textile equipment, overheating Shoei 1100 helmet and a nice track leather jacket.

Decided to get back into it this year and my friend recommended perusing what's on the market.

An android auto screen, 2 cams, tpms and a gas tank bag. All for under 200$.

Other than the accessory port being on 24/7 and having to trigger the system with the horn fuse, the install was easy. It's great not constantly killing your battery.

For protection, I found some affordable ce2 gear and a scorpeoExo commuter helmet that is working great.

Next up I've ordered a USB charger, a 4 way fuse block and I'm assessing some fog lights to help with night riding. It's neat what you can accomplish with some zip ties, Velcro and wire strippers.
