Changing Universities After Starting the German Student Visa Process

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student planning to apply for a BSc in Germany.

I have a question about the visa process. Let’s say I apply to University A, get accepted, and use that admission letter to start my student visa application. I genuinely would be happy to study at University A.

However, if I later receive an admission from University B, which I prefer more, I would want to switch to University B instead.

Has anyone actually experienced this?

  • Is it possible to change the university after submitting the visa application?
  • Would I need to inform the German embassy/consulate and provide the new admission letter?
  • Could changing universities cause problems with the visa or residence permit?
  • Is it easier to make the change before the visa is issued, or after arriving in Germany?

I’m not trying to use University A just as a “visa placeholder” — I would genuinely study there if I didn’t get into B. I just want to understand what happens if I receive a better admission later.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this personally. Thanks!

uni assit application help A level (International A level)

Hello guys, I’m from KSA and I’m applying to Germany through uni-assist. While filling out the information for my VPD, I ran into an issue with the country of graduation.

I graduated in KSA through A Levels, but when I select KSA, there is no option for International A Levels. However, when I select the UK, there is an option for International A Levels.

Should I select the UK as the country of graduation, or should I select KSA even though International A Levels isn’t listed?

Also, in the school section, they ask for the date of the school leaving certificate. Should I enter my school graduation/leaving date, or the date when I received my A Level certificate?

Would really appreciate any help from someone who has gone through the same process!

Applying for BSc Information Engineering at TUM with A-Levels (no A-Level English) — Will I be routed to Stage 2 interview?

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for the BSc Information Engineering program at TUM (Campus Heilbronn) for the upcoming intake with Cambridge International A-Levels.

My A-Level subjects are:

  • Mathematics: Grade A
  • Physics: Grade A
  • Computer Science: Grade A

I also have an IELTS Academic score of 7.0, IGCSE English as a Second Language, and an official Medium of Instruction (MoI) certificate proving my entire secondary education was taught in English.

Like most A-Level students, I dropped English after IGCSEs and don't have a standalone A-Level grade for English on my final certificate.

Based on my STEM grades, my Stage 1 Aptitude Assessment calculation comes out to ~80–88 points, which easily clears the direct admission threshold of 73 points.

My questions for anyone who has applied under a similar system or is currently in the program:

  1. Stage 1 vs. Stage 2: Even with 73+ points, will missing a standalone A-Level English grade automatically trigger a Stage 2 online interview (Eignungsgespräch) to verify language skills/subject requirements?
  2. MoI / IELTS Acceptance: Has anyone with a similar profile (MoI certificate + IELTS 7.0) had Stage 2 waived for direct admission, or does the automated points system strictly require a school grade for English?
  3. Interview Experience: If you were invited to Stage 2 for Information Engineering, how technical was it, and what should I expect?

Thanks in advance for any insights!
