HELP - Longer version of Screwdriver from My Doorbell single?
EDIT: MYSTERY SOLVED THANKS TO u/BlackDog5287
Really hoping someone out here could help a girl out because I've been driving myself mad trying to track this full song down.
Backstory: as a 10 year old back in 2005/2006, I became obsessed with TWS after seeing the music video for My Doorbell. They were literally all I listened to, I got all 5 of the main albums (got Icky Thump the day it was released in 2007), and I also had some random other CDs with some of their more obscure songs, but I honestly can't remember which ones I had.
By summer of 2007 (before I saw them in Fairfax VA on July 28th), I had been listening to a specific live version of Screwdriver a lot. I feel like I had a CD that had multiple live tracks, but since it was pre 2010 and Wikipedia lists their first live album as Under Great White Northern Lights, I genuinely have no idea what it was that I had.
For the last couple years, every once in a while I start thinking about that live version of Screwdriver, and I'd go searching for it.... I've probably listened to 20+ different Screwdriver live versions, but none of them are the one I remember so fondly.
Well, today, I found on Spotify this My Doorbell EP with this 3 track list (I would share the link but I am not sure if that's allowed)
My Doorbell
The Same Boy You’ve Always Known (Live)
Screwdriver (Live)
The second it started and I heard the crowd cheering, I KNEW this was the one I've been looking for, I also recognize this live version of Same Boy, so it's clearly something I had access to.... the problem is; this Spotify version runs about 4:42 and it cuts off before the ending that I VERY specifically remember.
The ending I remember had Jack extending the outro (as he does) and repeatedly escalating the "got a little feeling going now" section and there was a moment where he yelled "MEG'S GOT A FEELING GOING NOW"
The fact that it cuts off on Spotify + the fact that I didn't recognize the album art had me starting to believe I was being mandella effected, but then I found a Discogs page for the UK My Doorbell CD Single (again not sure if I can share the link), and in the track list, the timestamp shows Screwdriver (Live) is 5:42, which is a FULL MINUTE longer than the Spotify (and Youtube and Apple Music) version. There are multiple Discog pages that show this timestamp too, so I don't think it's a typo or anything.
So now I am pretty confident the ending I remember does indeed exist, but I have absolutely no clue where I would find it other than purchasing it off Discogs, so now I am turning to Reddit with questions.
- Does anyone know/remember this version of Screwdriver?
- Why in the world does it cut off early on streaming platforms? 😭
- Was this live track sourced from a full concert performance that exists elsewhere, that can be purchased through Third Man Records?
I've checked the Third Man Records website and I don't see that this particular single/ep is available for purchase, which is why I was wondering if it's apart of a larger full concert performance that I could actually buy.
If anyone has more information about what is up with this specific version of Screwdriver, you would help scratch a multi-year itch and I would be forever grateful to find a path that allows me to buy it and listen to that epic ending again.
