As much as I love the worldbuilding of Pirate101, the plot is… a choice.
What frustrates me the most is that so often it feels like the Pirate goes through an entire world only to make NO progress towards their goal. Sometimes I even find myself asking “Why am I here again?” (coughMOOSHUcough)
In that sense, I feel like Wizard101 is a better story in terms of making the player feel like they’re progressing towards a clear end goal. Like, at least I know why my character is in each world usually.
So when picking your class, Boochbeard asks on what charge did the Armada arrest you — most of which are fitting (practicing hoodoo for Witchdoctors, brawling for buccaneers, dueling for Swashbucklers) and some that are more tenuous (…smuggling for Musketeers?) but one that always bothered me is that the crime for Privateers is treason. The thing is, you can’t commit treason if you aren’t a citizen of the country accusing you of said crime. None of the Pirate’s possible origins include Valencia, so it’s safe to say that they aren’t naturalized or have jus soli citizenship. At best, the Armada would have a more legitimate case if they charged the Pirate with piracy (…obviously), terrorism, or general insurgency since they’re a foreign national attacking them.
But what if there is a way that the Pirate is, somehow, legally Valencian? If Valencia has jus sanguinis citizenship and the Pirate’s father was a Valencian national, then that citizenship could have transferred to the Pirate regardless of where they were born and raised. They couldn’t have gotten it from Pirate Jenny because she is canonically Darkmoorian, but they reasonably could be a Valencian citizen through their father.
shawty really made four sockpuppet accounts just to gas up this bozo
(also i havent gotten to trianon yet shhhhh)
Hey everyone, so I recently as of a few weeks ago got back into this game and have been really enjoying my time. I would LOVE to get the Haywire Armada companions, but I don’t really want to spend the money to open packs. I know in Wizard101, there’s a kind of grey market where you can trade Empowers for things like Crown Shop items, but is there an equivalent for Pirate? What would be the standard “currency” for it, if so? And where could I find people to trade with?
Thanks in advance!
Obviously there is no “canon” class for the Pirate since it’s completely dependent on the player’s choice, but I mean it in the same way that some people consider Myth the “canon” school of the player character in Wizard101. Based off the text of the game, what class do you think the Pirate was envisioned to be while they were writing the game?
Personally, I think the Pirate is definitely a witchdoctor (witchdoctorgangriseup). If I could go a bridge further, I feel like Old Scratch as a character in the story kind of just exists to explain how the “magical” occurrences such as speaking to the dead can even happen without the Pirate being a witchdoctor themselves. I really got the feeling that they were meant to be so after the moment in Crystal Cave where you hear the voices of your parents because being a witchdoctor in game has always been associated with having some form of power over or connection to the dead. It would make the most sense that a witchdoctor Pirate would be able to hear the voices of their deceased parents.
