Crabgrass invasion – Nuke with glyphosate or stick to pre-Labour Day overseed/ Reno routine followed by Cornmeal Gluten next spring?

Unfortunately, I had to take some time off from lawn maintenance due to recovering from surgery in late spring/ early summer (so I skipped the Cormeal application), and now the lower part of my lawn has a solid infestation of crabgrass (highlighted in the first photo). Worth noting it was roughly the same amount of crabgrass as last year).

When I did my lawn renovation last year right before Labour Day, I was successfully able to outcompete and dominate the crabgrass, keeping it at bay (as shown in the second photo from end of the season).

I am trying to figure out the best approach moving forward:

Option 1: Glyphosate and nuke the affected area now but also kill the surrounding grass (not ideal). I originally thought about painting each individual leaf to selectively kill the crabgrass and leave the good grass behind, but I’m thinking that is turning into way too big of a tedious project.

Option 2: Stick to the same pre-Labour Day fall overseed/ Reno routine that worked so well for me last year to crowd it out, followed by using corn gluten meal next spring.

What do you think is a better approach here?

Trial-ing DREAM 4K

I’ve been trialing about a dozen services on U7Buy lately over the last week, and it seems most providers claiming to offer UHD 4K are falling a bit short. They tend to label standard compressed streams as 4K.

Out of all my trials, I’ve only found one provider that actually delivered for Dream 4K, complete with true UHD movie VOD and live TV that actually triggered my TV's HDR or Dolby Vision badge with a solid bitrate.

Does anyone have trusted U7Buy sellers they can recommend, or alternative services similar to Dream 4K that reliably deliver high bitrate Dolby Vision/ HDR content?

Recommendations would be appreciated.

Looking for affordable spray pattern indicator (dye) alternatives in Canada—or better retail sources?

Looking for budget spray dye or better Canadian retailers. Amazon.ca wants $68 even "on sale 50% off," which is crazy compared to $20 retail USD stateside.

Where can I find reasonable CDN on-line or Atlantic suppliers selling turf marker dye for $25–$30 CAD range, or are there reliable cheap alternatives to dye spot-spraying? Appreciate any tips!

Three years after the Tantallon wildfires, we are still waiting for a way out.

Three years after the Tantallon wildfires, we are still waiting for a way out.

Today marks three years since the 2023 Tantallon wildfires. Many of us still remember the sky turning black and being trapped in gridlock on Pockwock and Hammonds Plains Road while embers rained down.

https://youtu.be/APo\_WIZKzlI

Since then, the Pockwock Corridor has seen some of the most aggressive residential development in the country. We are looking at over 1,600 new units in an area that only had 385 households a few years ago that’s a 318% increase.

We are trying to fit a town the size of Bridgewater onto a single, dead-end road that still lacks basic rural infrastructure.

The issue isn't growth; it's the lack of planning.

We are pushing for a freeze on new permits until our roads, water, and emergency services actually catch up to the thousands of people already living here.

Consider this: White Hills is less than 950 meters away from connecting to the Natura Drive/Lucasville Road network. That tiny gap of pavement would provide a life-saving second exit for over 1,450 homes. Instead of closing it, the city just approves more density along Hammonds Plains Road, where we already sit in soul-crushing daily traffic.
It is frustrating to watch the city prioritize connectors like the Aerotech project for empty land while our community remains effectively trapped.

We need three things now:

1 A permit freeze: No new approvals until we have a secondary emergency exit and a functional plan for the congestion on Hammonds Plains and Pockwock Road.

2 Immediate action on the 950m connection: Connect White Hills Run to Natura Drive. It is a simple engineering fix with a massive impact on public safety.

3 Accountability for the Margeson Connector: This project was promised 25 years ago and has sat on the shelf for a decade. Our tax dollars were earmarked for this years ago, yet it remains unbuilt. It is time to stop the stalling and deliver the project we were promised.

If you live out here, you know exactly what it feels like to be an afterthought. We’re staring down a crisis we actually know how to prevent, and it’s time the city stops stalling. We just want Hammonds Plains Road fixed and our communities finally connected.

▲ 2 r/Decks

Hey everyone,

I finished my 16' x 12' upper deck last summer (65" off the ground) and I’m finally getting the lower half started. I’m looking for a sanity check on my layout and framing plan.

** The Situation:**

I have about 16ft of clearance before the small hill starts toward the back of the area leaving me about 4ft of clearance for landscaping for plants, so I want to maximize the 12' depth. My plan is to build a 16' x 12' lower deck matching the upper and using a box frame on concrete footings, no beams thus reducing the overall height off the ground from 2ft to a more manageable 1ft so no railing would be needed on the lower.

The Framing Plan:

Orientation: Joists will run perpendicular to the upper deck an be 16” OC Using 2x10’s similar to the upper framing.

Footings: 6 total concrete footings (3 back & 3 front). The corner holes are set 16" in from the sides - so they’ll land on the 2nd inside joist and be hidden once the deck is wrapped/skirted. The middle footings are 8' apart.

Overhang: Leading and back edges will have a 2ft cantilever/overhang from the footings.

The Goal:

I’m intentionally avoiding beams because I want to keep the finished height only 12-16" off the ground. This also allows the lower deck to align perfectly with the upper, which feels like a logical spot for a future half-wall or privacy slat wall at the transition from upper and lower.

The Questions:

  1. Is a beam-less box frame sitting directly on footings the best approach for this height, i’m in Canada. I really don’t subscribe to putting footings directly on the ground to build my base, especially since there will be a physical stair connection between the two platforms. I prefer to do it right and put in proper footings and not have the deck be floating on grade.

  2. How would you handle the transition? I’m planning for the stairs to land on the front-left side of the lower deck, knowing I'll lose a bit of "usable" space there for the landing. Or maybe cut it out so there is negative/ void space under the stairs going right to the ground.

  3. Would you leave a gap between the two structures, or have the lower frame sit tight to the upper posts?

Any advice from the pros or folks who have done similar multi-level builds is appreciated!
