Preventing towing damage

Thought I’d ask here since there is not much going on over in the utility trailer sub:

Wanted to ask you guys for your opinions and recommendations on a very very affordable but not trashy looking solution to smashing up the sides of a towing vehicle with the corners of my utility trailer.

I don’t know what my problem is lately- probably a combination of stress and exhaustion- but I have just been out of control lately and have banged up BOTH sides of my little pickup truck. I’ve never had this problem before and feel like a real idiot.

So basically I need some bumper rails on my trailer cause I can’t be trusted.

Any of you have recommendations based on your own experience? I’m poor so anything pricey isn’t an option. My first thoughts are pipe insulation covers and boat fender floats. Later on I can make some strap-on foam pads in weather resistant material

I am accepting both recommendations and remarks of derision.
