For those of you running a powered cooler in your r1t bed, how do you orient it/use it?

Product shot from ICECO as an example.

I want a powered cooler for camping. I use the tailgate as my kitchen. I’m curious for those putting a powered cooler in their truck bed, how do you orient and use it? What has been most ergonomic for you?

I don’t really want to load it in and out. I assume I would remove my tonneau cover during the times I use it, but maybe that would create a situation where I’m reaching up and in too much.

(Not worried about power for placement as I have an external Anker already for other stuff)

So what has worked well for folks?

Are the gear tunnel camp kitchens that much better than using the tailgate?

Recent shot from this weekend. I find it pretty simple and ergonomic to cook off the tailgate. I’ve got a cheap rifle case from harbor freight that I mounted to the cross bars. It’s shallow and easy to access my kitchen stuff. I don’t love pulling everything out each time I cook, but I don’t love spending bank on the gear tunnel kitchen. But I would like things to be a bit easier to set up. I’m curious to hear feedback from people who have tried both ways and what their experience has been like.

Electric coolers in bear country, am I overthinking it?

I live and camp in the Rockies. There are black bears everywhere here. I have a yeti, which I lock, and place it far from where I sleep. No issues so far.

I’m thinking about getting an electric cooler. Unsure about the bear factor though.

I camp dispersed so no bear boxes to store it in. I’d leave it in my covered truck bed, but I don’t want a bear scratching up my truck trying to get it.

What do others do?

Family of 5 off grid camping tips?

How have folks optimized their R1T for longer off grid camping trips?

We are a family of 5 (all kids under 8, one is a baby who may be the source of the too-much-stuff problem).

We live in the Rockies and do fine with 2 days off grid, but I’m not in love with how we do it, and we certainly couldn’t fit a larger cooler for more food. Or fit another water can.

We have two diy harbor freight rifle boxes over the bed to add some storage but it’s not much. Avoiding things over the roof bc of range loss.

Just curious what actually works for folks. There is obviously a ton of gear marketed at this. Most of it feels expensive and excessive.

Thanks!
