I have to say, I’m really disappointed with the latest update, particularly the changes to Autonomous+.
The fact that you can no longer wear sunglasses while using the autonomous driving feature is a huge step backward. This is especially frustrating for those of us who live in very sunny states like Colorado, Florida, Arizona, California, etc. Sunglasses aren’t exactly an optional accessory when you’re driving in bright sunlight for a good portion of the year.
I understand the importance of driver monitoring and making sure the system can verify that the driver is attentive, but completely disabling the feature simply because someone is wearing sunglasses seems like an unnecessarily restrictive solution.
One of the reasons I was excited about Autonomous+ was the convenience and flexibility it offered. Having to take my sunglasses off every time I want to use it defeats a significant part of that convenience.
Hopefully Rivian can find a better solution, whether that’s improved eye/face tracking through sunglasses or another method of verifying driver attention. I really hope this gets addressed in a future update because, as it stands, this is a pretty disappointing change.

I want to share a costly, frustrating lesson with the Rivian community so nobody else makes the same mistake I did.

Last month, I purchased the Rivian Care vehicle protection plan administered by Assurant (Contract #CC311A57516D) for my 2022 Rivian R1T, paying a monthly installment of ~$167 ($2,000 annually). It felt like smart peace of mind for a vehicle approaching high mileage.

Fast forward to this week: I brought my R1T into the Rivian Service Center with 78k miles because the alignment was out. Because the truck was nearing 80,000 miles, the service center performed their standard comprehensive inspection. During that inspection, they discovered hidden mechanical issues—specifically, bent suspension arms and a rear compartment leak—totaling $4,500 in repairs. I have a $500 deductible and obilgated to pay $2000 now for nothing.

Here is how Assurant completely handled the claim:

• Immediate Denial: Assurant flat-out denied coverage.
• The 'Pre-Existing' Trap: They sent an independent adjuster who arbitrarily labeled the damage a 'prior/pre-existing condition' solely because it was uncovered during an internal service inspection.

Think about how predatory this is: You buy an insurance contract to cover mechanical breakdowns, but the moment a service center actually inspects your vehicle and finds hidden wear, the insurer weaponizes that inspection to claim it was 'pre-existing' before day one. They take your money every month, but the second you actually need them to cover a real-world repair, they claim they don't cover anything.

To make matters worse, I just purchased a brand-new 2027 Rivian R2, showing deep commitment to this brand. But partnering with an insurance administrator that rolls out non-covering antics and takes money for absolute nothing is a massive red flag.

My advice: Do NOT buy Rivian Care through Assurant. Cancel your contracts if you have them, stop throwing your money away every month, and put your repair fund into a high-yield savings account instead." or Pay double!

We’ll be leaving for vacation Thursday and will be parking the Gen 2 R1T at the airport for thirteen days. Other than charging to 100% before leaving the house, any other tips so I don’t come back to a dead truck? We get home very late and I don’t want to have to deal with finding a charger before heading home.
