OpenSSH 10.5 released, AI Welcome

>Recently the OpenSSH team have received a large number of security bug reports, many of which are findings from AI models or made with AI assistance. While many AI reports are determined not to have security impact when considered in the context of a realistic threat model, we very much welcome these reports, especially when combined with human triage, analysis, test-cases and particularly when accompanied by proposed fixes.

>We have seen a number of cases where a security bug identified by AI tools is subsequently independently discovered by a different researcher. This suggests that adversaries who do not report bugs to OSS projects are likely to be able to discover these bugs too. Given this, the OpenSSH team will, for now, be making more frequent releases to get bugfixes into users' hands more quickly rather than batching them until the next planned release.

Like most open source projects, AI-based fixes are coming in fast:

AMS Top Mount and TPU

Hey A2L friends.

So, I mounted my AMS to the top frame, but this means I can't readily mount the external spool holder for softer TPU on top as well. Since softer TPU requires as little friction as possible, has anyone found a good mount to handle this alongside the AMS mount on top?

Thanks.

I spent almost a year saying No to bigger compartments, then I bought a bigger printer.

One question has followed me through every version of my Capsuleer pill organizer:

>Can you make the bins bigger?

My answer was always the same:

No.

Not because I didn't want to, but because the sliding cover already stretched across the entire diagonal of a standard build plate. Bigger compartments meant a bigger cover, and physics is stubborn like that.

Well, I finally have a larger printer.

So I revisited the design instead of simply scaling everything up.

The result is Capsuleer v4L:

  • ~60% larger compartments
  • slimmer dial
  • thinner side walls
  • same locking and dispensing mechanism
  • still isolates every compartment
  • still refills by sliding the cover completely out of the way

If you've never seen the Capsuleer before, it's a flashlight-shaped pill organizer with a rotary dial that switches between Dispense, Refill, and Lock modes. It has evolved over several generations and thousands of downloads, with nearly every revision coming directly from community feedback.

This version exists because one request refused to go away.

Sometimes "No" just means "Not yet."

You all kept asking. I finally ran out of excuses.

If you've followed my Capsuleer models over the past year or so, you've probably seen me answer the same question many dozens of times:

>Can you make the bins bigger?

My answer was always:

"No."

Not because I didn't want to, but because the sliding cover was already as large as a standard Bambu build plate would allow.

Then I finally picked up a larger Bambu printer.

There went my favorite excuse.

😂

Instead of simply making everything larger, I treated it like my other design iterations.

Capsuleer v4L includes:

  • approximately 60% larger compartments
  • slimmer dial
  • thinner side walls
  • refined bottom design inspired by the recent x2 version
  • same locking, dispensing, and refill system

If you're new to the Capsuleer, it's a printable pill organizer that isolates each compartment and uses a satisfying rotary dial to switch between Dispense, Refill, and Lock modes.

The Mini version still fits smaller build plates, while the Full version finally takes advantage of larger printers.

Thanks to everyone who kept asking for bigger bins. This one exists because you wouldn't let me forget.

I designed a filament clip that I can actually leave on the spool without worry.

I've printed more filament clips than any reasonable person should.

Most of them worked.

Most of them also had one little thing I'd eventually wish were different.

So, I designed The Wingman.

The idea was simple:

>Put the filament in...
...and then completely forget the clip exists.

To get there I focused on a few things:

  • Smooth curves so filament can't snag during printing.
  • A two-hole snap fit that stays put.
  • Quick filament insertion instead of threading a huge length into the clip.
  • Easy printing with good bed adhesion instead of trying to shave off another 0.05 g at the expense of reliability.

It works with the AMS Lite (top mount or stock), AMS, AMS HT, and AMS 2 Pro, and weighs only 0.47 g.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

As always, I'd love to hear what you'd change.

I wasn't going to design another filament clip, then I got annoyed enough

There are already a ton of great filament clips out there, so I really wasn't planning to make another one.

Then I kept running into little things that bugged me.

Some had sharp edges that could snag filament if left on the spool while printing.

Some only used one spool hole and could rotate or fall out.

Some wanted you to shove too much filament through the clip just to hold the end.

Some were optimized so aggressively for filament usage that they became harder to print reliably than the problem they were solving.

So, naturally, I spent too much time designing one, but, to be honest, these things aren't complex.

Meet The Wingman.

It's designed specifically for Bambu spools and its entire goal is to stay out of your way.

A few things I'm happy with:

  • It has a really satisfying snap fit.
  • Smooth curved profile so filament has nothing to catch on while printing. (Printing TPU? Bring it on.)
  • Holds only the amount of filament needed for quick insertion and removal.
  • Can stay on the spool while printing or drying.
  • Works with the AMS Lite, AMS, AMS HT, and AMS 2 Pro.
  • Only 0.47 g of filament per clip.

I'd genuinely love feedback from people who've tried a bunch of different filament clips.

I wanted a purge bin that detached with one button press. This is where I ended up.

After getting my printer, I realized the thing that bothered me most about purge bins wasn't actually the bin, it was how they attached.

Most designs use hooks, magnets, friction, or some combination of the three.

They work, but they usually involve awkward removal angles, extra hardware, or eventually drifting away from the printer.

So I started wondering:

>Could I make a completely printed push-button locking mechanism instead?

That question turned into far more prototyping than I'd care to admit.

The result is a spring-loaded mechanism that lets you:

  • press one button
  • pull the bin straight off
  • push it back on until it locks again

No magnets.

No hooks.

No additional hardware.

The printed spring and sliding mechanism were by far the hardest part to get right. There was a lot of tweaking clearances, geometry, and part orientation before it felt reliable and satisfying.

The purge bin is almost just an excuse to use the mechanism.

Was this completely unnecessary? Probably.

Do I smile every time I press the button? Also yes.

I wanted this to be the last purge bin I'd ever print for my A2L.

The best accessory is the one you stop thinking about.

That's what I wanted from a purge bin.

I didn't want magnets.

I didn't want awkward removal.

I didn't want it slowly drifting away from the printer.

I wanted it to feel like part of the machine.

Meet the YAPR (Yet Another Purge Receptacle).

The main feature is a push-button locking system I designed called BinLock™.

Instead of lifting, tilting, or unhooking the bin, you simply press the button and pull it straight off.

A few other things I focused on:

  • No magnets or extra hardware
  • Matches the printer's contours so it looks more "OEM"
  • Doesn't block the vents
  • Available in Slim, Standard, and Wide versions
  • Optional full-bottom liner
  • Angled interior so it's easier to grab the last bits of purge

The entire mechanism is printed, including the spring, so seeing it finally click into place after countless prototypes was ridiculously satisfying.

If you could change one thing about the current purge bins available for the A2L, what would it be?

I may have accidentally overengineered a purge bin.

After getting my A2L, I realized I still wasn't completely happy with the purge bin I was using.

The biggest annoyances were surprisingly small, but they added up:

  • Having to awkwardly angle or wiggle the bin every time I wanted to empty it.
  • Watching it slowly vibrate away from the printer over time.
  • Finding little pieces of purge that managed to fall between the printer and the bin.
  • Breaking or reprinting liners more often than I thought I should.

So, I may have gone a little overboard.

I ended up designing a new purge bin that uses a spring-loaded push-button locking mechanism (I call it BinLock™) instead of hooks or magnets.

Now removing it is literally:

>Press button and pull bin

No awkward angles.

No magnets.

I also shaped the side to better match the printer so stray purge has a harder time escaping between the printer and the bin, made it available in three sizes, and added an optional liner that protects the entire bottom instead of just parts of it.

It definitely falls into the "probably overengineered, but I'm okay with that" category.

I'd genuinely love to hear what you think.

Remember when you used to use <insert distro here> and how much time you often wasted troubleshooting things or being less productive?

I do, and what a pile of recurring frustrations it was. Updates often caused a little too much trepidation and subsequent productivity loss, packages were often too old, and missing expected functionality, or too new and causing problems, and changing something in the system often meant something breaking somewhere else due to the overall fragility of the interconnected pieces.

Most days I never think about my distribution and just enjoy using my computer, and other days I'm reminded by how much I enjoy Void.

So, thank you again Void maintainers for keeping this ship afloat, and awesome. Yes, nothing's perfect, but we're not too far from it.

And now I'll go back to work, or, well, read/make some Reddit posts.

Cheers.

Can't make cellular calls in Italy

Hello!

Currently roaming with Dark Star Unlimited Premium in Italy and Internet, RCS, SMS, and Wi-Fi Calling works fine for local calls and calls to the US. However, I can't make any calls when I'm on the cellular network.

I've confirmed settings per https://www.usmobile.com/help/docs/international-travel/roaming-checklist, so these are not the issue.

What other things can I try to get this sorted? I don't have time to spend with support right now, so I'm hoping there's another checklist or so that I can go through to confirm things are working correctly so that I can call my local hotel, restaurant, or even my partner while I'm out and about.

Thank you!

My family kept running out of seats in Game of Life, so I designed a 12-passenger double decker bus

The original car worked fine until our games started accumulating babies, pets, and extra players.

Eventually we reached the point where multiple cars were required just to transport one family, which felt like an inefficient use of transportation infrastructure.

So I designed a simple convertible double decker bus that:

  • Seats up to 12 passengers
  • Prints in about 24 minutes
  • Requires no supports
  • Works as a replacement if the original car has long since disappeared

It started as a silly little project, but it has actually become one of our favorite upgrades for family game night.

New to HomeRun, and watching away from home

Hi! Considering cutting the cord and, in investigating my options, it appears the HomeRun does not readily allow you to view content when away from home.

It appears this can be worked around with additional hardware/software, but I don't want to do this. It also appears this is possible with a VPN, and I guess I can understand this to prevent the device from being exposed on the Internet and hacked, at minimum.

So, my question is, with regard to the VPN, anyone know why the HomeRun is decidedly obtuse when it comes to accessing its content across subnets? Is there an ETA when this limitation will be removed? Or is there a specific reason for them limiting this and forcing additional hardware to work around this? It appears a large number of negative reviews for the app are directly related to this design decision.

Thanks!

It's summer! Cool off your Rivian with just one tap!

Want to save that extra tap, and possibly an extra scroll, to quickly cool off the truck? Add this widget to your Home screen!

I find myself doing this more often nowadays and this just makes it even easier. Yes, I know this can be scheduled, but my schedule is often unpredictable, so the "tap 5-minutes before I head to the truck" works best for me.

Cheers!

Roamless eSIM Credit Never Expires

From a travel sub, I found out about this neat eSIM provider that allows you to pay by the gig and it never expires. Unlike most providers that give you a set limit that expires after a period of time, Roamless's data never expires, so you never pay for extra data that you don't use and you never have to worry about going over your data limit.

One eSIM works in all countries, so your credit and eSIM work everywhere.

If you sign up, you'll get a $5 bonus with code 52FV9 (and I will as well).

Happy to answer any questions; I've been pleased with the service so far.

Cheers.

I designed a tiny double decker bus for The Game of Life because my family kept running out of room for babies and pets

One minute you're playing The Game of Life normally, and the next thing you know there are 6 kids, 3 dogs, a random cousin, and somebody reclining in between other passengers because the original car taps out at like 6 people.

So I made this ridiculous little double decker bus that seats 12 passengers.

No supports needed.

Honestly, it might be my favorite "tiny unnecessary but somehow completely necessary" print I've made in a while.

Bonus: it also solves the "we lost the original car years ago" problem.
