Stumped - Why is this print inconsistent?

This is the first printer issue I have that stumped me so wanted to see if anyone here had some advice. Quick summary and then details picture by picture.

I am on my second printer in 3 weeks. The first one had a solenoid failure and was replaced. So after PICTURE 1 everything is from the Printer #2

PICTURE #1 - This is a lego "sticker" printed on official Lego tile. I make these in place of actually adding the stickers. This is 1200 ppi scan on the sticker sheet and edited to size for each tile. The two sets in this picture were Printer #1 color tests.

PICTURE #2 - Printer 2 - went to make more of these and this was the result. Literal same settings as Picture #1. I had already done a "wake up" test print along with printing some other tiles. Those all came out perfect.

PICTURE # 3 - Close up to show the loss of sharpness, besides the obvious color issues.

PICTURE # 4 - Many tests with different CMKY and WHITE settings.

PICTURE # 5 - NEW DAY, test print done and some other tiles done. Returned to this project to troubleshoot and the results were PERFECT. These were all different color and white settings just to see which I liked.

PICTURE # 6 - Thinking everything was fine I used my last two flat 1x8s and the results are horrible again.

PICTURE # 7 - Attempted what I did in Picture # 5 again, and everything is FINE.

So i have no idea whats going on. Any advice would be super appreciated.

What is this and is it needed?

Set up my printer yesterday and kept getting this "flucuation" error message. Every time I went to calibrate the camera it would fail. There was a message about placing a blank piece of paper on the bed, so I figured I had nothing to lose and tried it.

As soon as the print head moved, this piece, which was "fixed" underneath the print head snagged the paper and crumpled it up. The piece also fell off. I could not figure out how to reattach it. So I left it off...and...Ive been printing all day, perfectly.

We think it was part of the packing material but I dont see anything in the instructions that says to remove it. So before I toss it, what is it?

thanks!!
