Sitz baths - key to healing or mainly pain reduction?

I was wondering from people who have healed their fissures or have spoken to a CRS about this; are sitz baths a requirement to heal your fissure? Or are they more for pain relief?

This is my first fissure, I'm 6 weeks into prescription creams and the pain and spasms have finally *almost* subsided, I still am doing almost daily sitz baths but I'm curious to know if I should be militant about taking one every single day.

Not healed but pain free thanks to this sub!

So on Thursday last week someone commented on one of my posts saying surgery is probably my only option for my fissure which made me spiral.

Some days I'm optimistic I'll wake up healed while most days I feel really hopeless. Last week I was feeling really optimistic til I read that comment.. I know it's an opinion but dang.

Anyway, that night I decided to sit on this sub and just read success stories to try and make myself feel better, a reminder that healing can happen. I learned a few things that I started implementing on Friday and it's helped a TON.

It's only been 4 days but Ive just spent 10 weeks in severe pain so to have 4 days of mild to no pain has been a MIRACLE.

I know I'm not healed because it still hurts like hell to go to the bathroom but the muscle spasms are the worst part, lasting 6-12 hours for me. So no spasms makes this entire experience more bearable.

I'm on diltiazem atm but asking my doctor today to switch to nifedipine because medical studies suggest it's WAY more effective for healing.

My first breakthrough was 2-3 weeks ago switching from psyllium husk to miralax.. after learning from the Mega Thread about how psyllium husk is bulking and can make the pain worse. That helped reduce a lot of pain during BMs.

Then on Friday I started to put Vaseline up my butt before my BM, doing a quick massage. Then after my BM making sure I put my prescription cream up my butt and not just outside, again doing a gentle massage. Then, any time I noticed I was getting severe spasms I would just repeat internal massaging with Vaseline or vitamin E oil.

It literally took away almost all my pain.. like a 2/10 in pain and discomfort. I feel like I've almost gotten my life back.

Then today I noticed that my poop isn't like finger thin but normal stool size, so it shows my sphincter wasn't insanely tight this morning during my BM which feels like a huge win.

Baby steps but getting hours of my life back gives me hope and maybe these tips can help someone who is currently suffering.

I'm currently on Diltiazem but I read it only has a 54% success rate vs Nifedipine is 77%.. just curious for those who used one vs the other or maybe used both what your experience was.

I'm really, really hoping the cream will help me and I don't need to look to Botox or LIS.

The Diltiazem I've been on for a month now and I haven't seen any improvement.. not sure if I ever will or if I should call my doctor and ask to switch to another medication at this point
