Appeal for child survivors benefits at 18 still in high school

My son turns 19 in August 2026 but does not graduate high school until May 2027. He has been receiving survivors benefits for his father that died when he was 5.
Last year we did the paper work and he has been getting the benefits himself to his own bank account. We got a letter that it was ending in June 2026, but again he does not graduate until next May. My understanding was he should receive benefits until his 19th birthday plus 2 months as long as he is a full time high school student.
We did an appeal form and got the school to do another form again stating he doesn’t graduate until next May & submitted it in office. It’s been a month and we have heard nothing. We did call at the 3 week mark and they just said “it is in process,” but his online account shows nothing has changed.
I’m guessing he won’t receive a July benefit as they usually come in the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
Does anybody know how long the appeal process takes for this kind of situation, & if he misses months will they give him back pay if they do approve until 19+ 2 months? Or am I wrong about the 19+2 months?
Thanks in advance
