Fortitude

I hitchhiked across America & Canada in the 1970s — and 50 years later I finally wrote the book.

Spent years on the road with nothing but a backpack and my thumb out on the highway. Ended up with thousands of stories, wild adventures, close calls, and unforgettable people.

For decades people told me, “You should write a book someday.”

So I finally did.

If you like true stories about the 70s, old-school road travel, and a version of America that barely exists anymore, you might enjoy it.

I hitchhiked to travel across America at fifteen in the early 1970s ( the tail end of the counterculture era)

I’ve been writing about those years recently, but I’m just as interested in hearing from others—what was your experience like back then, or what stories have you heard?
