Been working on how to measure intangibles in hockey! Only really worked on depth so far.

Worth noting I don't make any money off this website, so trying my best to beat the self-promotion allegations. I just want to make something useful for folks. So if you're curious you can see Nashville's team page here!

Tonight's Matchups

Been working on really trying to measure some of the intangibles of teams and matchups. So far, only really fleshed out depth. Goaltending obvs is also v important, so here is a dashboard of how the matchups stack up tonight with respect to each team's depth and goaltending so far this season!

Something I've found in the data is depth and goaltending go hand in hand. If your team has more depth you can withstand shakier goaltending (shocking, I know). So very curious to see how some of these more imblanced matchups go tonight. Like Vegas having more depth than Seattle, but Seattle having so far considerably better goaltending.

Caveat, this is early season so all these numbers are pretty shaky with only 2-3 games so far per team.

The NHL is more tenured than it's ever been, because the long careers are getting longer. A Tenured roster is important for getting into the playoffs, but once you're there it's moot.
