Phunnel vs Killer/Classic Bowl for Modern Dark Leaf: Is molasses retention actually ruining the bake?

Conventional wisdom says: "Dark leaf with heavy juice belongs in a phunnel to save the molasses." But lately, running modern dark leaf (Black Burn, Musthave, Element) in a traditional multi-hole or killer bowl seems to yield a completely different nicotine hit and session curve.

With a phunnel, you keep all the syrup, but by minute 45, you're essentially boiling juice instead of baking leaf, which often leads to that harsh, heavy throat feel toward the end. With a killer bowl, excess glycerin drips down, forcing you to manage heat tighter, but the airflow genuinely draws through the tobacco rather than just sweeping across the top.

Are phunnels making us lazy with heat management at the expense of a cleaner bake, or does running a killer bowl waste too much flavor to justify the marginally better airflow?
