When to know if one chick may be rejected or need outside help?
Hi there,
I have had a pigeon nest in my balcony for the last 2-3 weeks now and they hatched yesterday. There are two chicks, I have only seen one once or twice (tbh I thought there was also only one egg [twins?]), but one tends to be visible from my window. I try not to disturb them but keep an eye on them. I have seen both move before but they rarely do so as I understand it is okay since they are still pretty young(?). The parent hasn't left them at any point but one tends to be more to the side (not always this far. Sometimes touching the chick's side).
With little to no movement, slightly open beak, and parent not fully covering it, I am slightly worried for the chick in frame. I don't want to disturb them, but if it needs help, I wouldn't want to also do nothing. So yeah, I wanted to ask when would you be able to say if the chick is abandoned, or outside needs intervention? Would helping one scare off the parent and cause the other to be left alone as well?
First pic, now. Second pic, yesterday afternoon (the chick on the right is the one in photo 1 & 3). Third pic, this morning.
