W6LVP Active Receive Loop
I’m considering using a W6LVP loop. My only concern is that inserting lightning protection is not recommended and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with that. Has anyone had success with a lightning suppressor?

I’m new at APRS and rather confused.
I have a CSN iGate Mini set up as a digipeater (K2UNI-10) and iGate and I’m not sure it’s doing any good. It’s not very high so I amplify the signal to around 80W.
My packet list shows that almost everything I receive via RF comes from a digipeater that’s about 20 miles away. If I can hear it that well, I wonder if there’s anyone in my coverage area that needs me to repeat it. How can I see my coverage area to see if the other station completely overlaps it?
aprs.fi shows 4 stations under “Stations which heard” and they’re all other digipeaters. I doubt my signal sends them anything they aren’t already getting.
The raw packets list on aprs.world only shows my beacons and they’re K2UNI-10>APSN01,TCPIP*,qAC……. My path settings are WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 so shouldn’t I see RF packets as well?
Finally, aprs.world’s details page for my station says “no reception data yet,” which makes me wonder if anyone is hearing my RF.
I could be totally misreading everything so any advice would be helpful. I just don’t want to be running a station that doesn’t do anyone any good!
What do you think of the software included on the Mini? Do you find it sends good packets?
I set up an iGate digipeater at my home. It’s not a great location and I’m not sure if there are other digipeaters in my area. So how can I tell if mine is doing any good?
I have a home digipeater and I want to include weather data in my beacon. I have a Davis weather station that feeds data to CWOP but I don’t see how to get it into APRS. Is this documented somewhere?
I’ve been running Kubuntu 26.04 LTS since it was released on a Dell Optiplex 5050 with 8GB RAM. I kept running out of RAM with some websites so I added another 16GB. All I did was insert the two cards, then reboot. free-h shows all 24 so I figure I’m done. But I’m getting a Plasma crash (haven’t captured the message yet) and at least one system hang, and I’ve never seen that before. Is it a coincidence?
I moved an NVMe drive from one Pi5 to another, the new one in a Pironman Mini case. lsblk shows the drive as nvme0n1 but nothing else sees it, including Gparted. Since lsblk sees it I assume the drive is installed properly and functional, but how can I get it partitioned so I can use it?
I run a Raspberry Pi 5 in a Pironman case through a KVM switch. Everything was fine until I removed one of the two NVMe drives. Since then, my extra-wide monitor doesn’t see the HDMI signal from the Pi. I can feed a smaller monitor just fine with the same switch and cables, but not the big one. Other computers going through the switch have no problems. What could I possibly have broken?
I have two devices on my network I can’t identify. They’re both called “Android”, one with a long hex string in the name. The manufacturers are companies that apparently make chips for TVs and IoT devices, which doesn’t help me find them. I’ve tried disconnecting every device I’m aware of but these devices stay. What are some really obscure possibilities?
When I look at the PSK Reporter map for signals sent by me on various bands, I see signals on bands I haven’t used. Shouldn’t I only see the bands I transmitted on?
Beautiful, clean example of this Civil War commemorative. Asking $675. PayPal, Zelle, or Venmo accepted. I ship the next day by insured USPS.https://imgur.com/a/4Z7RkQV
I am new to Reddit so I'm willing to use a middleman and do anything else the community expects. I have other coins to sell once I see how this all works :)
I am liquidating my collection - a US type set, all PCGS certified. The only price guide I’m aware of is PCGS CoinFacts, which I assume is retail. What’s a fair percentage of retail to expect a dealer to offer?
After getting comfortable with Kubuntu I’m ready to move my online files off of OneSource. I don’t need much space and it would be for storage, not backup. What’s a good free option?
I installed the ARM version on a Raspberry Pi 5. The install seemed to go fine, but when I try to shut down I get “Failed to schedule shutdown: Operation denied due to active block inhibitor.” The problem appears to be Unattended Upgrades Shutdown, also called unattended-upgr - when I kill that, the system can shut down. Can anyone explain why this happens and how I can fix it?
